Cam Shaft Position TDC 1 and 4
« on: May 01, 2011, 07:31:59 PM »
I have a 77 CB 550F.

The Haynes manual was a bit confusing about how the notch in the cam shaft and the cylinder head plane should line up. The picture in the book has the notch to the right and the knobs on the cam shaft in the upward position. However, when I lined up the notch to the right, the knobs where in the downward position.

So I decided to line the notch up on the other side so the knobs where in the correct position. Does that seem right?

PS thats at TDC on pistons 1 and 4.

Which was is correct? Should the knobs be up with the engine at TDC for 1 and 4? Or should they be pointing down?

Thanks in advance for the help guys.
Tear it down.

Doesn't matter as long as the notch is lined up with the surface of the cylinder head and the points plate is set to T. The 500/550 has a wasted spark system so it doesn't really matter which cylinder is on compression, if 1 is then 4 isn't, if 4 is 1 isn't.
