Hi all,
I have a 750K5 and it has an oil leak. The previous owner told me about it and told me what it was back in January when I bought the cycle, but I can't really remember what he said. This is probably because he could have told me it was the muffler bearings and I wouldn't have known the difference. He seemed to not think it was too big of a deal, but he said he had put a lot of work into it already and didn't want to take it apart to fix the thing.
Here's what I know: it leaks down the kickstand and leaves a little pool there. Apparently it's leaking enough that it looks like I might want to top off the oil. I think it's leaking more since I had the oil changed (yes, I know, I'm a wuss for not doing it myself - but I haven't bought any tools yet and it's hard to turn screws with your fingernails), but that's probably because the guy used Rotella T synthetic blend (insert gasps). I was mad at first and I certainly don't want to start this discussion, but I must say that it shifts much smoother now.
Here's my questions: 1. Can I top it off with regular old gas-station shell oil or do I need to get more Rotella T? 2. Any idea what it might be and how much it would cost for me to have someone fix it (if I tried to do it it would leak much more oil than it does now)?
I can't fault the guy - the bike is in great shape and runs quite well. Plus, he threw in a stock set of exhausts that are in pristine condition. Bonus.
Thanks in advance and you guys are GREAT. I've learned a lot from all your posts and I hope to learn lots more this summer - but during classes it's hard to fit anything more into my brain.
