Hey I'm sooooo glad to be back. I was just banned for the last few hours for "DOS attack" which I'm assuming is a "denial of service attack"
I'm not really sure what that was all about, but ok...
I can assure you that my one little laptop wasn't responsible for an attempt at spamming your server hard enough to take them down.
I'm not quite sure what triggered the ban but I can say that I about pooped myself with worry. I don't mean to get all emotional but I really don't know what I'd do without you all.
(Yes I could just create another profile but that's not the point.)

Has anyone else ever had this happen to them? Please post your experience.

My recent ban has reminded me how much I <3 this place and I will be making a contribution next paycheck to help keep it going.

I haven't personally had it happen to me, but I know you can be part of the DoS attack and not even know it... Usually a virus/trojan infects your computer (among many other computers) and at a certain time all of the computers attack at once. You may want to run a scan with a reputable virus scanner... I prefer Malwarebytes and Avast! Antivirus. Both are free, luckily. :)

well i'm pretty sure my comp wasn't part of a ddos. I use peerblocker to track and block all unrecognized ip's along with a hardware firewall to do the heavy duty traffic monitoring.
I have it set to throttle/deny my connection should I start spamming people.
I like malwarebytes and avast both are great. Antivir works pretty well on older versions of windows too. But by FAR by favorite has been Spybot Search and Destroy. I switched from Kaspersky (which I paid for) to SS&D because it's that good.

I'm wondering if the sohc just banned a whole range of ip's because of a ddos? Or maybe someone else on my network got hacked?

A zombie computer could be spoofing your IP address.

Yes, DOS is denial of service, but in this case, it was accidental ban/designation and related to some software change. I removed a couple individually when notified, and finally decided to remove all dated as of 5/3. There were some 30-50 members so listed. Hopefully, everyone is good to go again.

I was banned. Back now, obviously.

I figured guys smarter than me were on top of it.

I thought about this. I'm confused why I didn't get an ip ban if that was teh case. I went home to a different network and was still banned.
