Hi guys,

I just picked up a stripped down/custom bike that is just awesome. It's a Honda CM400T that has been rebuilt and stripped to look like a little drag bike. I love it! Anyhow, as it is my first bike - I don't want to go with the 3/4 helm just yet, but I just can't stand the look of the alien full faced helmets. Does anyone have a good lead on a super simple black helmet or something that (dare I say) might look a little retro? A throwback?

I've tried multiple google searches and haven't come up with anything yet...

Thanks!

Bratt

You might find an old Art Fulmer(?) fullface but it would not protect worth crap.
Helmets are being designed for aerodynamics these days, full face that is.
Full face was not common back then, so a retro look is probably going to be hard to find.
maybe just find one that is not too flashy and more solid colors.

To me the immediate difference between old full-face and even the most plain modern full-face is the size.  Modern helmets tend to be much larger, as well as much more round, because they have a much thicker protective layer.  You really can't get that vintage full-face helmet look with modern standards of protection, IMO.

Look at some of the less expensive brands like HJC.  They tend to be designed more for just function rather than being all alien or insect-like.

i still have my Bell Star from back in late seventies.  it was deemed illegal due to the lack of peripheral vision.
that would be a good one.

keep searching. There are a few out there but hard to find in the states. I came across a web retailer in UK that had some DOT compliant full lids, but I'll have to dig back to see if I can find it. Some of them were somewhat-old schooly looking, more so than the tribal/extreme contemporary hats that are around now. I picked up a metal flake Bell 500 and a bubble shield. great match for the 74 CB350f, great for my laps around the neighborhood, but I'm not getting out into traffic with it.
