My K1 cb750 purchase from last weekend
« on: May 05, 2011, 10:54:40 PM »
Last Saturday I bought this cb750 from the 68 year old orig owner who was sad to see her go.  He had always hoped to get back on her but it never happened due to his health.  It has a production date of 9/70 and has not been ridden for a few years.  These are not the best photos of the bike and it does need some cleaning.  It has been sitting in his garage and has the dust to show for it.  I am not digging the seat but at least he had it recovered so the orig base is with the bike- I am in search of a seat for it.  It came with the tool pouch/owners manual/and mechanics manual.

WOW! What a beauty!  :o
I think I'm jealous. There were not all that many Valley Green K1 bikes, and chances are, it's an Old Factory bike (which means more HP than the other bikes that followed it). It should also idle so smoothly, all the way down to 500 RPM, that a glass of water set on that tank will barely ripple.

That will be your guide to when it is finally tuned up properly.  ;)

THAT is a find!

Great find! I was just talking to Kurt Winters and he said the best all time CB was the K1. Supposedly great performance from those first two years.

I'm all for mods/cafe/etc but I'd leave her just like that. Have fun!

You can still get the OEM seat from Honda. At least I got one about 2 years ago. About $250.

I also have a Valley Green K1 but your paint is much better than mine . Great find . It looks like it just needs fork gaiters and a seat to bring the cosmetics back . How much mileage ? How much did you pay?

Great looking bike. I have been lucky enough also to buy a few from the original owners and have to say its the best way to go when possible. Know all the history etc.I also would be curious as to mileage etc.I have been trying to get a guys Valley Green 71 for almost 2 years now from his huge pole barn, problem is it and another 750 + an original 550 are packed way in the back, thing is stuffed full of old cars, boats etc.Wants to sell all as a package, maybe this spring  :P  Enjoy, that year is one of their best.     Eric

Thanks for all the kind words on the bike.  The bike does have some miles on it- he and his wife toured all over.  He would ride the 750 and his wife would ride on her 550.  It has 35,000 on the odo and I paid $800 for it.  I will have to look into a new seat from Honda- I have been looking on ebay but feel a little scared paying those prices if I can get an oem one still from honda.  A few more pics of the 750 along with some of my 550.

Its a #$%*en sissy bar!

I removed mine in favor of a vintage K&G luggage rack with padded adjustable backrest I got off of eBay shortly after I bought my bike. Still have it though, there'll be a big market for them someday when retro sissybars are 'in'. ;D ;D

At Least!!!!

I may have only paid $250 for my K1, but it took thousands more over the course of several years to get it to where it is now, and it still doesn't look as good as yours.
I now have no choice but to hate you.   Don't take it personally. ;)

Yeah , $800 is a amazing price for that bike . As for the seat , try looking for places in your area that re cover seats if your seat pan is still good . There was some talk a little while back about Corbin making a seat again for the K's ( they just brought them out again for F models ) but its likely to cost the same or more than the OEM seats you see on ebay . Re covering can come close to what OEM costs once you factor in foam ( which you look like you need ) and you have the old hardware when your done . IT WANTS A NEW SEAT ( and gaiters too ) . IF that's all it needs right now it still a LOT less than most bikes around here need when members buy them .

Great find.  Always loved the green - so much, I'm even going to paint my current project the same color.

Here in Texas or on ebay, that thing would get over $3000 without even trying.

DUDE!! You thief, you lucky lucky thief!  That is an awesome find, wow am I jealous.  :o
Like others have said, that K1 would be at least $3k around these parts.  You got a great deal on a true survivor.  Valley Green!!
Congrats on one hell of a find.  Now just loose the sissy bar, swap out the seat and go ride'n.

Oh, and sweet looking 550 too.  You're building quite the stable.  ;)

The bike does need some work.  My list so far consists of: new tires, f/r sprockets, f/r wheel bearings, new gaiters(included when purchased), chain, push/pull cables, clutch cable, carb clean, mc rebuild, and what ever creeps up on me.  The PO added the red rear turn signal covers-those will be replaced with the standard signal covers.

I placed an ad on craigslist- a WTB cb750...I received a email in my trash inbox from a coworker of the orig owner and he gave me the phone number so I called him up, went and looked at it, and now it is in my garage.  I am going to take it by his place on its own power since it left in the back of a truck.  He seemed very eager to see her running again and back on the road.
