Here goes nothin.. a 550 build * new completed pics !*
« Reply #150 on: July 11, 2011, 07:00:37 AM »
Thanks guys  :) Well i have to say this past weekend was one of the most "roller coaster" like Ive had in a long time.. Every year for the last 5 or so we have a huge BBQ at a very good friend of mines house where people come from RI,VT,NH,NJ ect to attend..I really wanted to have the the bike "Done" for this so friday night was kind of the last big push to get everything buttoned up for Saturday. I wont get into all the specifics but lets just say i left my shop at 3am feeling very defeated.. Sat morning comes around and I text bright and early from the guy who has been helping me out with this build since day one saying pretty much "get your ass outta bed were going back for round 2"  needless to say that day went much better and i was finally able to take the bike on its first shakedown.. i couldnt have wiped the smile off my face if i tried. After making a few small adjustments and a few more shakedown runs we loaded it up into his trailor. Since the bike is only insured at this point i had him unload it down the Street from where the BBQ is (out in the middle of nowhere) so i could ride it over. Alls i can say rolling into 100+ people cheering me on was one of the best feelings ive felt in a long time. Even though the bike isnt 100% complete i didnt even care .. look for some updates this week for sure as im hoping to finally get my rear susp that has been on back order and possibly some new gauges.

in the mean time heres a little teaser shot a very camera savy buddy of mine took this weekend. look for more of these in the future as well ;)

The tail and the badges really look great.

FWIW, I'm not a shill for Race Tech - I've just got a thing for good suspension and the RTCE's are the most cost-effective mod for these old damping rod front ends.

B,
The satisfaction of a job well-done is priceless...

I just found the build thread and read it through.  The bike looks great - I admire the vision and skills it took to put it together!

Cheers,

Ha it's not even my bike and I got super excited reading that. That must've been an amazing feeling rolling into that BBQ. Congrats, you deserve it dude.

I'm completely jealous!  Nice work, man!  Got some shots of it from the side?  We haven't seen it fully assembled!

Bit of an update.. i got the bike registered on the 16th and i have been really enjoying it ever since.. after the bike was legal i had to sit around all day and wait for the mail to come with my new rear shocks ,gauges and turn signals.. finally they showed up around 3 o'clock so i went right to work.. i didnt bother with the gauges untill last night actually because well, the old ones worked fine and i just wanted to ride and not tinker with wiring for a few days  :P  so like i mentioned last night i got my new gauges all mounted up and functional. The only issue ive had is my rear marker light going out.. i still have a brake light when i use the rear brake lever though.. Im still waiting on my rear signals from dimecity after a little mix up so once those get here i plan on really going through all the wiring again for one last time to get everything squared away... Sorry for the boring, no picture update but hopefully after this weekend that will change  ;)

wiring nightmares are killing me!  So like i mentioned i had been waiting for my rear turn signals to arrive and they finally showed up yesterday so i figured it was time to get everything working like it should. Not the case  >:(

First on my list was to get the rear light working again. the weird thing is it was working just fine and all the sudden it just shut off and hasnt come back on since. i have a brake light, but no running light.  zero luck with that, the bulb is good so i have no idea whats wrong with it.

next was getting my turn signals all working/ flashing. well the "working" thing is ok but the flashing side of things just wont happen for me.

lastly was getting my warning lights all working. after doing a bit of reading i figured out i need to run some diodes on the hot side of the turn signal indicator to get it to work with both sinals.. but im also having a problem with my nuetral/oil lights.. i know they are on the same ground but cant find any reason why they arent working for me.. do these require a diode on the hot side as well?

I got distracted with exhaust and a few other things, so I've been letting my roommate work through the wiring on mine.  The weird thing is, I have almost all the same issues, except my oil and neutral lights work.  No diodes needed.

Yeah it's been super frustrating for sure dude.. As far as the warning lights the only thing that should need a diode is the hot side of the turn signal warning light. The neutral and oil lights I ended up tieing together the grounds on the same circuit and that fixed both of those. The high beam warning was plug and play.

As for everything else.. I actually got it all sorted out finally. I ended up grounding the solid brown wire on the same circuit as the the backlights for the gauges and that solved the tail light issue.  Got the turn signals working after I replaced the relay with an electronic solid state relay... Def recommend that upgrade. super easy and have a nice sharp flashing signal :)  soooo the only thing left is to get to radioshack and hunt down a diode and I think I'll be 100%

I was supposed to go on a photoshoot today but unfortunately the weather is not on our side so much.. So here's a crappy iPhone pic from the other night

That photo is a tease but still looks very good!

Glad to hear that you're getting the wiring stuff sorted out.  For electrical, all you can do is be methodical.  There's always a solution, you just have to slow down, back off, and think before you act and you'll find it.

Sorry about my bad call on the signals.  Did you find a plug and play relay?

no no dude its all good... def not your fault ahahhaaha. but yeah i found one that was straight up plug and play, from what i gather pretty much any 12v flasher is. I ended up using a nice and small 2 wire unit from napa and it even mounted in the old flashers spot like a glove.  "X" gets the black wire and "L" gets the gray wire.  best 9 bucks ive spent in a while  :)

Been alittle while since I updated so I figured id stop in... Last week I swapped out my painted headlight bucket for an all chrome one. Also finally got my front fender painted too.

I had been trying to get up with a good buddy of mine to have him shoot the bike for the last couple weeks and finally last night we were able to make it happen. The weather was super crappy so we Ended up setting up at an abandon car dealership right next to my shop.. Photobucket really puts a damper on the quality of the shots which is kind of a bummer but I wanted to share a few with you guys for sure..

What can I say dude.. I'm a pretty silly guy. Ahahahaha

Thanks for the great comments guys. As we all know it's never "done" so  today I scooped up another front rotor to send out to have turned and drilled by a fellow member here on the forums. I'll def be upgrading the pads as well once I get the rotor back. I was thinking of trying the EBC pads out but I'm open to suggestions for sure..

Not sure I'd bother with the EBCs.  My dual disc setup with oem pads is dreamy.  I'm using a MC from a CBR F2/F3 and its perfect.  Great feedback.  Smooth operation. And plenty of braking force.  Throwing EBCs on it seems like a waste of money.   Grab my number off facetube when you get to the installation part.  There are a few things that I worked out that aren't in any of the "how-tos" I found on here.
