i have everything together and cleaned but should i put grease or some kind of lube on the gaskets for the float bowl and top cover or are they fine the way they are?

I always assemble carbs with gaskets dry and never have any issues.  However if you have that awful o-ring on the float bowls, I would suggest a dab of Permatex Hylomar in each corner just to hold the ring in place during reassembly.  Hylomar is soluble in gasoline so it won't crap up your freshly rebuilt carbs.
