stock '73 750 - strange sound from clutch
« on: March 08, 2011, 11:33:46 AM »
Hi everyone,

My clutch makes a strange sound, but only when the engine is not fully at operating temperature. I am guessing it is the clutch, because it only happens when I put the bike in first when I start rolling (clutch half way released). As soon as I have had the bike running a while it's fine.

It is not a chatter - it's a very unpleasant winding sound.

Thanks for any input!

need pictures.    but it sounds like basket or bearing failure.  I had one do that.  Take the kickstart off and remove clutch cable, then the clutch housing and start takin pics, let us see what ya got goin wrong in there

Mine does the same thing but only once in a while.  So far it has not been enough of a problem for me to go looking for trouble.  I'll be watching this thread to see what happens.    Mine is a '74 750.  Also stock.

sorry for those who were interested - I realize my follow up is very late!

I decided to not do anything about this issue after I heard that many of us have bikes that show the same symptoms. Rather, I am enjoying my bike - thx to you folks here.

I now finely put a few miles on it and notice how much better the bike runs properly warmed up and the more it is ridden.

Is it a gggGGguuuUR-UR-UR-rrrrkkkkkkk.. sound when you first let it out  ??

Is it sorta grabby, and on or off..
Does it feel stiffer than some others..

If you answered yes to some of the above, its probably a BARNETT clutch, and it is fine..
