Dalai Lama Campus Tour
« on: May 11, 2011, 05:40:13 AM »
Has anyone, or is anyone else going to see the Dalai Lama at their campus? I was shocked to hear that he was coming to AR, but I had to get a ticket when I heard. At the cost of $0.00 I just couldn't resist, and I get to take off work early! I'm already feeling enlightened. ;)
The pic on the ticket cracks me up.

I just had the great opportunity to work with the Dalai Lama's staff at the University of Minnesota. I must say if you have the opportunity to listen to him talk, you will be in awe of such a great and wonderful man. I doubt you will ever get another chance to hear him speak. You will not regret it.

Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.

So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

So I jump ship in Hong Kong and I make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas.
Angie D'Annunzio: A looper?
Carl Spackler: A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-lagunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

That is the best movie of all time. Second best is Animal House. Third is Gandhi.

I didn't have the greatest seat in the house, but I'm so glad I got to see him! I highly recommend going to see him speak if he's anywhere close to you. He's pretty funny and he cracks himself up all the time. He was talking about how people call him different things when he said, "Some people call me demon. He he he he he!" He even stuck his fingers up on his head like horns. My favorite quote was, "If you have a problem, and you can see the solution, there is no reason to worry. If you have a problem, and there is no solution, there is no point in worrying." Good times.

A few of my coworkers are on your campus this week for an Oracle conference, and one of them mentioned the Dalai Lama being there.  That's mind blowing.  I wish I would have gone to that conference now.  I would've bailed on the conference to see him for sure.   I had a conference in Philly a few years ago for work, and the keynote speaker ended up being Maya Angelou.  She was pretty amazing.  No Lama, but still pretty awesome to see.

Oh yeah, I parked at my friends house to go see the Dalai Lama because he lives real close to the stadium. When I parked my bike I heard this chick yell from across the street, "Hey motorcycle guy!" so I went over to see what she wanted. Turns out that her husband is the guy that built my bike! I was in a hurry to meet my group so I didn't get to stick around, but they live right across the street from my friend so I'll go over and talk to them sometime. I just thought that was pretty cool.
