So many questions....
« on: May 13, 2011, 09:55:17 PM »
'78 CB750F Super Sport. I've never heard it run more than a few seconds on quickstart. Last time it was registered and I assume ran is in 2003.

I've had trouble w/ the electric start, at the suggestion of members on this board I went to check the starter clutch, that's where the trouble starts:

1) When I cracked the alternator cover I found the oil had gone to light chocolate milk. On a car my first guess would be cracked head gasket, but, no radiator here. What can cause this?

2) How do I remove the alternator cover wires? I removed the cover over the shifter, do I need to remove the chain cover as well and disconnect at the clip?

3) Is there a trick to getting the rotor stay bolt off? The rotor rotates when I try to crank it, either way (do i go the opposite direction to remove?)

4) The gaskets were shot, how should I clean the surface before I put the covers and new gaskets back on after I rebuild the starter clutch?

Like I said it hasn't started, but I have good spark on all 4 (new plugs, new battery and all electrical works perfect), I have a new petcock and the fuel flow is good to the carbs. When I kick it I get compression (if its the right compression is unknown)

5) I'm pulling the carbs for a cleaning (hopefully this will get this thing running), is there a trick to pulling them out or is it brute force?

6) I have compression and spark. Fuel is up for debate, like I said hopefully a good carb cleaning will be the trick, but, if that doesn't fix it where else should I look? Is there a way to check that fuel is getting to the cylinders?

Thanks
