Tail Light off at 5k rpm!
« on: May 12, 2011, 04:34:54 PM »
Got pulled over last night on my '76 550K for no tail light. Once he stopped me it was working fine. Turns out my tail light shuts off at about 4-5k rpm, but the brake light still works (who knows how long it's been doing that since I don't typically look behind at my light while moving.) Haven't had a chance to look at it yet, thought I would post here while I'm sitting at work to see if anyone has ideas on why it is doing that?

Very unusual. ?
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Sounds like its a vibration issue. Clean the socket and check wiring, and change the bulb and let us know.

You'll all sleep better tonight...it was just a bad bulb. The filament had a break, but was still touching so worked at low rpms, but higher rpms/vibrations made it detach. Whenever something happens to my bike and I can't get to it right away, I'm always paranoid its something catastrophic! Thanks for reading! Case closed!

Hopefully that will keep the cops off your tail.Sometimes one little bulb on your bike or other vehicle can cause a world of hurt  :o
