S90 anybody own one?
« on: September 25, 2014, 01:42:32 AM »
Gday
I've been offered an S90 with the high exhuast pipe.
I've not seen them with type of exhuast before.
I know they are only an around town type of bike, but anyone who owns one.  Do you like it? Are parts easy to come by? I had a quick look and there seems to be a few after market parts.
Is the quality of these ok?.
Thanks for any replys
Scott

Looks like a Scrambler 90. Same basic bike, except for cosmetics.

It's an early CL90.
Since it's not pushrods, engine parts are fairly easy to find, there are a LOT of Chineeze aftermarket engine parts for all the variations of this engine, from 50cc thru 90cc. They're all basically the same engine, very simple and durable. Vertically split cases are a drag, but......

Body parts, not so easy.........

Yes Scott the horizontal singles are tough as nails.

I have a headlight nacelle with the speedo for an S90. I can't remember if the CL & S used the same parts but it would be easy to check.

I remember looking at a used one of those way back in the day when I was not quite old enough to ride. Man I wish I could have got it.

I would jump on it if I were you.

I haven't done the deal yet.
Not sure if I will. The guy wants to sell 2 CL90's for $1000 ($500 each). Both have problems. One a clutch problem and the other kick start kicks through but doesn't turn the engine over.
But for an extra $500 he has a Honda Dax 70cc but with a 50cc engine and also a 2 stroke Suzuki step through.
I've just sold my Ducati and are trying to get my garage in order and finish a couple of other bikes before I buy any more, so I haven't made a decision on these yet.

Mark, you could'a hung it from the rafters and she'd be still good to go

I know, i know, the problem is there are so many bikes and cars i wish i still had, but never had the space. One example, I had a '70 monte carlo with a big block perfect shape that i sold in 1980 to buy buy a 71 beetle. Needed cheap transportation car. I did sell a 70 norton to buy my first cb750. Like to have both of them back
thanks, Mark

Hey Rocky, you have a late S90 there. Ive restored a few.
The pre-68 models had silver painted fenders; but those produced after March 1968 had chrome fenders
Also pre-68 models had only non-metallic colors; after March 1968, they were made with candy colors
Plus the clutch side cover is two piece on the early and one one the late.
I have a nice chrome rear fender on eBay if interested,
thanks, Mark

Second hand CL90 was my wifes' first bike in 1973. Swapped out the 18" front wheel for a 19", better for off road except in mud.
Giving it a bit of air.
