To drop the tank i measured how far i wanted to lower the front. Then i ground off the metal mounts for the front of the tank. Measured down from the old points how far i wanted to drop it and then drilled a hole through the frame on both sides. Then i slid a piece of rod through the frame and made sure the holes were level. Then i cut the rod down to size and tack welded it in place and put the rubber bumpers back on. It took a little extra grinding to get the bar level and where i wanted it but thats basically it. I did the same to my CL. these bikes look much better with the tank dropped about an inch.
I bought a set of clip ons. We will see how they work. They will fit a 26mm fork and mine are 27mm so i should be able to make it fit. They also might be total crap as I bought them for $37 from china but it was worth the gamble because my other option is over $100 for a set of clip ons.

Thanks guys, Yeah i will probably throw on some allens at some point but i havent bought them yet. Today i got the frame painted and the swing arm. I also pieced together the fork legs and lowers i am going to use and then put the tripple tree back on the frame using the old ball bearings. Im hopping to have it back together as a roller tomorrow.

Well, its a roller again. Need a little help putting the motor back in but thats about it. I ended up using the left fork off the 78 and then using the right fork tube from the 78 and the right fork lower off the 74. There is a small difference in appearance but not too noticeable.

I shaved down the top tree but it had 4 small hole in it from the clamp bolts so i tried to fill them with the tig welder and it was a mess. These are not made from a weldable aluminum. so i sanded and filled a little with putty and then painted it black.

I need to get some new front brake parts and put the wiring back on. Then its just waiting for the tins to be done from the paint guy.

yeah i know. Thats how i feel but i want to finish this one and then i can focus on the 550 without interruption. My next move is to pull the motor and then take the bike to the upholstery shop to make the seat.

Well the 125 looks like its getting close, and going to be a fun ride.  So I'll follow along, and wait for the alloy wonder to take centre stage again. ;) :)

i think im going to wrap it with black header wrap from the motor to about 7 inches from the tip. I was thinking about making a heat shield for it too.

I may give a shot at making my own pipe but im not sure that it will fit the style. We shall see. Right now i just want to get it finished so i can take it to one of our local farmers markets. My friend has a both that he sells coffee beans at. Its a Non-profit company that sells imported coffee beans from thailand. They pay the villagers fair trade prices and help educate them so that they will not grow opium as a a cash crop as well as help them with many other issues. Its a perfect bike to help draw attention. His business is called Lana Cafe so i thought it would be perfect to have a cafe racer as well as the fact that in thailand they still ride lots of 125s. So its basically the perfect bike to help market for his company. Here is the web site.

Yeah, i was thinking more like BIG blue the lana cafe racer. I might have some stickers made up to put on the bike. I thought it would be funny to have a  sticker for his website (lanacafeusa.org) so when people go to the website expecting it to be cafe motorcycles and then find that its actually a coffee website.

Im hoping to day to sand the paint on the motor a little to smooth it out and then hit it with some gloss black instead of the semi gloss. Im also statring to wonder how long my seat and tank is going to take.

Im also leaving today to go visit my parents at the winery they live at over on the coast today., Ill be taking "little frank" with me so i hope to get some cool pictures.

Well i painted my handle bar switches, machined slots in the clipons for the wires and put them on. Everything looked great.....until i tried to hook up the throttle cable. There was no hole in the switch housing for the cable, its a switch housing for an internal throttle. SOOOO i went and bought some 7/8 steel because i was going to have to machine a big slot for the internal throttle parts and the junky Chinese aluminum would probably crack with very little weight. So i machined out a piece of steel tube tapped it into the clipons, The 7/8 is a little bigger the the tube the chinese used and wala!! internal throttle! it doesnt snap back like it should but it works ok.

Seat and tank should be done next week but ill be on a cruise to mexico. Also need new tires.
Im trying to get it done by the end of the month. My dad is having a motorcycle day at his winery in los gatos. It should be mostly harleys so i want to show up on my little cafe.

+1 on the internal throttle, looks like a nice clean install.  Maybe a stronger return spring might help.  Did you have / make the parts for the internal throttle, or source them?

They are stock parts for a 74 cb125. I ordered some new internals so we will see if that helps. Its really helping me get this bike done knowing i have a deadline. I also realized that the GNRS is only 4 months away. So as soon as i can finish this bike i am going to clean up my gerage, put everything where it belongs and then hustle to get my 550 done for the show. THe motor rebuild is still scaring me a little but i cant wait to get it all finished.
