Hello from CB500Four in Arizona - Disaster Pending
« on: May 14, 2011, 08:33:55 PM »
Hey guys, new to these forums but have been in other active communities forever.

A little about myself.  I am a novice by every sense of the word when it comes to mechanics but am willing to dive in if it makes sense....... or not ..... I seem to be ok with electrical and some mechanics but always have issues with carbs.  My recent bikes have been

CL200 Scramlbler 1974

CB200T 1975

BMW R65 1982

Yamaha Xs400

I recently picked up a 73 CB500Four.  The bike overall is in excellent shape except its not running because the previous owner pulled the carbs off and COMPLETELY disassembled them with no idea how to re-assemble them.  My understanding is the bike ran ok before he dismantled the carbs.  The reasoning for dismantling the carbs was because the bike would not pass emissions.  Currently I want to get it back up and running and then I'll worry about the emissions.  I figure if I can get this done right the emissions will hopefully fall into place. Or it will reveal more problems.  regardless I think carbs is my only option as to where to start.

parts the the carbs came in individual tupper plastics.  I think if I can find someone to help me with the carbs then I will be in hog heaven. I personally think I would be better suited finding someone with more carb know how to take the carbs and get them dialed.  If it where as simple as jetting and removing the bowls I would be a little more confident, but in this scenario.  I think leave it to the pros.

Not completely familiar with the 50f carbs, but mahe sure all passages are clear, taking care not to force too large through the jets.

Remove the slide cylinders and use a ball poiny pen to push out the emulsion tubes, mahe sure the perforations (holes) ae not clogged.

See faq's and use the search feature, you will find all the information you need.
