1973 RD350
« on: May 21, 2011, 12:53:33 pm »
I know its a Yammie but has anyone ever had one or rebuilt one? My neighbor has one collecting dust in his garage that I could get for cheap. I hate seeing it over there being neglected and was thinking this little 2 stroke would be fun for a next project.

Had a couple and worked on dozens.  If you can get it cheap, buy it. Especially if there is a title. Very desirable and fairly pricey bike that is a blast to ride...Larry

For cheap I would say grab it.  Nice ones go for $$ around here and they do come up often enough.  I have looked at a few and would like to get one but just don't have the room or time at this point.

nothing got through a tight set of corners any quicker than a savvy RD pilot. Motorcyclist's November 1974 test of the RD350B said, "...in everything but all-out acceleration, the Yamaha 350 will probably outperform just about anything on the market in box-stock trim.

...the bike can burn through switchbacks and carve around sweepers like few in its displacement class and few in any other class."

Being a 2 stroke, a title would make or break the deal for me. With a title, I would go through great pains to score one, on the other hand, without papers.........I would low-ball and walk away if the guy didn't take the offer.

Yup its titled. I asked if he would sell and he said with a big voice "Oh Yea!" so I know he wants to get rid of it but is to lazy to do the work of selling it. He said $800 for it but I am confident I could get it for less if I walked over there with cash. I was thinking of offereing $500 for it.

There was a nice one at the OBR9 last weekend.  Someone here has a 400 DS or 2.
18 grand and 18 miles dont make you a biker

My thoughts exactly.  $800 bucks doesn't sound unfair for a project RD350.  I had a friend that used to build them, plenty of parts/add ons still availible.

My buddy had one years ago that I rode, it was fast! If it's a runner and all there, $800 is a great deal. I'd give $500 sight unseen, what's his ph #? Ha!

if it hasnt been run for a long time and its hard to start etc you should be doing the crankshaft seals,i like two strokes.
