1975 CB750F Super Sport New Project
« on: May 15, 2011, 07:31:15 AM »
Hey all
New to the forum here, and could use some help. I have a nice 1975 CB750F Super Sport with a little over 6000 original miles, picked it up for $2000.00, (I know a little high) but I liked it.
Bikes in pretty good shape, not a lot to be done. I am working on gas tank, rear seat cowl, and seat trim pieces paint.
I have studied the forums, understand most issues with paint. Looking for good painter to get me as close to factory as possible, in the Flake Sunrise Orange Color.

Also, I have to refinish the seat trim pieces, as the previous owner redid the seat, and ended up cutting the original seat trim parts so the recovered seat would fit. I have new trim parts (from a bike that had the blue color scheme), but need to figure out how to get the orange color on the trims. Does not look like the original was paint, but some sort of colored tape or something.

I  am in colorado, and any help on where to go for paint, and help on these trim parts would be appreciated.

Thanks
Rabelrouzer

I'm kind of a new as well.  Welcome to the forum.  Looks like a nice find and I don't think 2Gs is far out of line for a bike in that shape.  You have a nice foundation.

If the engine is sound, that is a good buy at 2K. IMO

Very Nice and it doesn't look like it needs much

IMO $2K for under 6K miles is good. I don't know a painter locally that can help. DonDirtBiker sells paint kits that I understand are excellent. We have a painter in the forum. I too am interested in the color for the trim. I have both blue and orange body sets. My orginal blue is scratched on one side and I have 2 orange ones but they are the same side. I also have a black set that I'd like to convert. There is a guy here that may be able to help with the trim that I need to contact. Looks like painted 3M adhesive foil. Please stay in touch via PM or email. Where are you in Colorado?

Looks like Tim's bike! That is a nice bike. Save those 2 cut trim pieces! I may be able to use those with my new Corbin after market seat. You in the Springs too?

Cool - another newbie to the forum doing up a SuperSport (just like me).

I look forward to seeing what you do with it - and $2K for a good running CB750F would be a bargain here in Australia (coincidentally I paid that for mine).

Why are you painting it as from the pics it looks to be in decent shape? No?

Great find in any case.

I am repainting as the guy who did it before just didn't do a REALLY good job. I am looking for authentic. It's in good shape now, and I am chasing another tank and cowl so I can send them off for paint, then swap when they come back. So it's still rideable while getting new paint.

Jerry, Ill save the cut pieces for you, forgot to mention that in the PM I sent you

nvr2old I will check out your paint services, thanks for chiming in.

Thanks for saving the trim pieces!! I'll owe you big time. If that was Tim's bike he listed it here and EBay for $3500. Good buy! I've seen it and it is nice!

nvr2 was the guy I've seen on here so that worked out good  ;)

Oh yeah guys, no begging! The answer is NO! I had to return one due to a bogus EBay deal AND you don't really want to know what they cost me either  ;)

Jerry, got any idea where I can get a set of emblems / badges for the '75 or '76 or what others years might fit?

that's another issue! tank badges are close to non-existent. not available from honda. i scanned ebay nightly for all those years to find a few in decent shape. i'd like to try to refurb some. the metal looks like it's cast the correct color. i have a friend with various wood working tabletop type belt sanders. i'm thinking that might be a good way to  finish the letters. the rest would be ez. 75-78 all fit. 77-78 have "super sport" beneath "honda". i just saw a nos 77-78 on ebay last few days. side cover badges may still be available from honda. i got 2 sets a few years back. jtmarks77 (77 i think) has a pair he's tried to sell for a long time. ~$70. he puts big value in his stuff but if you really want them then.... i bought a new nos speedo from him ~ $400. only made 1 year for 15,000 bikes and that may have been the last one in the whole world.

He said he didn't have any more, but I didn't ask about '77 or 78. The is an old crappy '75 tank for sale with badges, I may buy it just for the badges, pull them off, have my fabrication shop refinish, or just plain route out new ones from brass or aluminum using the old ones for template. I'll let you know what I end up doing

Score!  Found a guy on EBay, just took a couple off a '76 Cb750F, and found some reproductions through Z1 Enterprises, now if I could  just find someone with a NOS Orange Tank they wanted to sell me  ;)

Well done!

I was about to look in my box of bits for you and see if I still had the ones I pulled off the '76 tank.

I think they were broken anyway.

We, of course, will need a report on the repro ones. Where are you in Denver? I may be heading up to drop off Terry's bike or bring him back here to get it. I ain't bringin' a tank! Unless your guy would like to see it/both in person but it's gotta come home with me  ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if you have more money in those three tanks than I paid for my '75 F way back when.

OK, I give. I paid $1800 for my bike new. Those 3 tanks together were $100 less and the nicest one (orange) I actually found for $300.

I swear if I had those three tanks and the orginal boxes - I would almost open a shop selling old Honda parts just so I could show off those tanks, and not sell them!

And I paid $1450 for my '75 on 7/4/77.  You know that orange tank of yours would look a lot better on my bike than the pitiful F2 tank I have on there now. ;)
