Washer identification quiz - Keihin 627b carbs (cb500)
« on: June 30, 2015, 01:27:45 AM »
Ok... So I have a washer left over from my carb rebuild????

Given it's dimensions I guess it sits somewhere on the bar that actuates the throttle lifting mechanisms?

100 Extra Super Bonus Kudos points to anybody who can tell me exactly where it belongs.

Obvious, that washer tells us you need to clean your nails. Yech!
But frankly, I have no idea.

I believe it's part of the linkage arm. Look closely at this (looks to be washer above part #26):

Good guess but it looks like he's not missing one of those. Maybe an extra from the intake bolts? Doesn't look familiar to me at all as far as actual carb parts. It also looks larger than a 5mm more like 6mm?

It's quite large...  ID 10mm. OD 18mm

So I disassembled and cleaned up the Stay Plate and the other attached items separate to the carbs so it should be from here...?  As you can see there is no breakdown of these components in the Parts manual or these schematics..  #14 on the below link

The ID of the washer is pretty much the same as the OD of the bar which makes me wonder if it is a spacer that sits on the bar somewhere?

Did you have the linkage apart?  It's not possible to take it apart without it being broken or breaking/drilling it.

Doesn't go anywhere else that I know of.  At first glance it looks like it's one of the washers for rod assy where the slide is attached but it's far too thick.

Ok I think we may be getting somewhere..... yes I did take the linkage apart.

In fact it came apart and went back together quite easily and I had no idea it wasn't supposed to come apart?  If you loosen all the screws and bolts on the linkage the rod just slides right out in my case?

Now I look closer there is what looks like the back of a small 'pin' on the arm that holds the rod (see Picture) .

Should this stop the rod from moving side-to-side?  I do remember seeing a groove on the rod somewhere.   I assume then that the end of this 'pin' might be broken in my case?

Yeah that rod isn't supposed to slide out. I took mine apart once. Once. When removed, there are slots in both areas where the pins are and metal woodruff keys. Still though, I don't recall any washers that big there. I just went down and looked at a rack of carbs that I just rebuilt and don't see anything either.

Possibility it fell into the carb rack from above a while ago and just fell out when you disassembled the carbs? 10mm is big like the size of engine mounting bolts.

Ok thanks everybody... I think I'll stop worrying about the washer and share out the 100 Extra Super Bonus Kudos Points between you all.

riverfever - What did you do when you put yours back together?  Did you just let the rod sit in the arms or did you re-secure it some how?

I guess I could drill out the plug and thread in a screw or epoxy in a dowel?  Mind you the mechanism seems to work just fine so maybe there is no need to do anything?

Sounds like yours came apart pretty easily. Mine did not. One of those ears that the rod slides through ended up cracking on mine and I had to get a new backing plate from Harisuluv.
