proper fuel tank coats?
« on: July 06, 2015, 06:47:33 PM »
so I want I brass fuel tank. what's the best way to go about it? can I just strip the tank, prime it, spray it with something like a rustoleum faux brass spray paint, and just clear coat it? do coats need to be automotive grade? can just the clear coats be automotive grade?  also saw some videos of heating the metal and using a brass wire brush to transfer the brass..? any experience on what looks realistic?

Rustoleum. You could do that, but it'll look like crap, not at all realistic, and probably wouldn't hold up well.
What with the primer , a color coat and clear coats, all that work, one would ask why not do a nice color paint job instead.
or
you could ask a plater what it would cost and do it for real. here's one in NY you could contact
http://theplatingsource.com/?gclid=CL3ItNbRysYCFdgJgQodHswFmg
find out what you need to do , and if they would want to do it, if you can afford it
or
you could plate it at home in copper, you tube has some insight on that, may be fun or a waste of time
depends, but at least these sites can answer some  questions if you still want to go that route.

interesting.. the reason for no standard paint job is just the typical me having a vision and not wanting to budge on it haha. this is probably a ways down the road for me so I'm just brainstorming. I appreciate the input. I'll probably check out that plater for a quote but I'm kind of afraid of the number I'll get back haha.
