yea I've been terrible about chronicling my bikes since I took on projects for other people.

how do you feel about putting some keihin FCR's on that thing? I really don't think I could justify the expense but I get the feeling that this little bike would really make good use of them.

You are really close. We usually meet at the HighSide Cafe (Precision Cycle) on US301/12th Street in Sarasota since Fuel Cafe closed. Every Tuesday night from 6 to 9.

I got the material from Advance autoparts. Just the primer and paint. I cleaned the engine and parts with purple power degreaser and rinsed really well. Let them dry and you are good to go.

Thanks Kwality. I am using the stock seat pan and attaching the seat cowl on it. I had to trim the metal pan in order to fit. See the pics below. These are just a mockup. The tank and seat are the last thing to go on the bike but I could not resist to see how it's gonna look like when it's done.

Did you push out the two swingarm rubber-bushings before getting powdercoated or did they survive from the heat?
Are you planning to do anything between the seat and the tank?
Yellow&gold, and black combination looks fantastic by the way. cant' wait to see her running!

I love that you decided to build this your way. I have always felt that when I make a bike the way I want and it just happens to be a bit rare it just makes all the rest more valuable! Yours will be one of a kind when done and that is truely RARE!
Good luck on the build and Fatherhood. My daughter started working on bikes with me when she was four and now I cant keep her out of the garage.

I had to get new ones since I forgot to take them out. At least the local Honda dealer had the parts in stock.
Once the seat pad is installed, the seam in between the tank and the seat won't be as noticeable, so I think.

Thanks a lot fasturd. It's been a really good experience to work on this little honda. This is my first project bike and probably the last one project for some time. Next one I hope to have a lil girl to help me build.

The project is finally complete. It took quite some time and sweat but it's done.
Took for a 3-mile test ride around the neighborhood and it ran quite well for a bike that was sitting for several months during the project and 25 years prior to that.

The exhaust is quite loud but it will do for now. Really happy with how it turned out. Time to ride it after registering next week.

Working on my project using ninja 250 wheel as well, I am running to a problem with rear wheel alignment and sprockets use. Can you point out how you done on your bike, how you align the front and rear sprocket? what kind sprockets that are used? Thanks for your help.

For the rear wheel installation I used all the Ninja 250 spacers, including the rear brake caliper bracket. However, for the chain tensioner adjuster, I used the stock from the CB400F. The front sprocket is the stock 16T, a 535 DID chain but the rear is the Ninja 250 39T, 525 steel sprocket. The sprocket studs had to be cut by 1/4" in order to provide clearance at the swingarm. Other than that, it all fell into place and the alignment was spot on.

My '77 is one of 1494 Canadian models made. Combine that statistic with the fact that only two colors were available makes the 1977 CB400F in yellow a very rare bike indeed.

Both wheels are from a Ninja 250 (16"). The tires are Pirelli Diablos. 130x80-16 at the rear and 100X80-16 at the front.
