« on: May 16, 2011, 10:50:50 AM »
Are there any of you old 750 A guys out there that know any tricks to hop up the off the line performance of the auto? Ive got  a cycle Xchange electric ign, ported 24 mm carbs, with cut slides.Been all up and down the jetting and raising the jet needle. ive heard theres a spring that controls the oil flow mto the torque converter that can be trimmed. Anybody?

Don't know about the spring you refer to. SamCR might me able to help you on that one. I have a CB750A that I have hopped up a little. This was incorporating a 41a cam, Dyno2000, Ign, as well as K Carbs, jetted for the bike. New roller steering bearings as well as new bronze bushings on the swing arm. The speedo says it will run 110, however I have doubts on the accuracy of the speedo. Even if it runs 90 to 100. Thats not bad for this old girl. As you know it is a strange bike to ride with little or no engine braking. If you find anything out on this spring, I would be interested. You might want to ask how SamCR gets of the line. He may have some other tricks of interest.

Ask Spanner, he's our resident Auto expert. ;) no pressure eh Spanner.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

There's a 57 page thread in the High Performance section about building a 'matic bracket racer with all sorts of great info regarding mods and issues unique to increasing performance of the automatic.

What the hell?  I walked in here expected Sam to be rolling himself a smoke and pontificating on the performance enhancements for a 750A   ;D ;D ;D

It is a proven fact that modifying a SOHC Honda in any way will bring on the apocalypse.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I have some sad news, SamCR750 is no longer with us and his replacement SamCB750A knows bugger all about automatics,..... I just get to race it 8) 8) 8)
I think it really is time that our Lord and Master Glenn Stauffer started a section dedicated to the automatic.
You wouldn't believe the number of PMs I get from auto owners wanting to know this and that and I have to disappoint them by telling them I don't know. What I do do is refer them to my Auto Guru JWEEKS Jon Weeks.
Jon has been behind the auto side of our drag bike from the start and without him I'd be lost, Jon loves answering questions. ;D ;D ;D ;D ::)
Good luck

Sam. ;)

I may not be as young as I once thought I was, but I'm still around.  Sound motor, especially ring seal, make more torque, add a few teeth to the rear, and make the torque converter slip more. Sam's 59 page and counting saga on modifying the CB750A covers more questions than you should need to ask.  ;)
