chopper clutch help

my chopper clutch is hard to ajust. the clutch has NO slack in cable if i give it just a lil it wont holed and kills motor. the only way is with NO slack and if i turn it just a half turn at the bars it will slip bad. Now will a bad cable make it this way?? before i get a new cable. want to see what you guys think. the friend that make the bike said that was the way it was... all my cb750's you can give it tons of slack and it's fine... why is this thing a pain??

The procedure for proper adj is in the service manual. You will have to go by the engine # to download the right manual (engine size and year)??

Has the clutch been apart at some time? If so, it's possible that the plates were not reinstalled correctly.

If it hasn't been ridden much lately, one of the fibers could possibly be stuck to the plates also. These things were notorious for that.

 Then adjust cable.
 If its a Barnett, it can be very on or off feeling.

thanks yes it's a barnett. i did take it all apart when i got the bike it was stuck it sat for 20 years cleaned plates and put back together. i will have to look at it and see if it's right but i think it is.
Slack the cable.
 Then adjust screw and locknut, under 3 bolt cover..leave a bit of play.
