You can get a Morris wheel widened by Kosman.. I know a guy getting that done this year.. probably cost 500ish plus shipping.. and if you send it soon, would be ready for next year..
Thanks.  I've thought about that, but it's too much money.  It would make sense for a racing application, but for what I'm doing, I think I mainly need to weigh the pros and cons of the different approaches and then make my decision.

I bought the Morris wheels, and I'm looking forward to seeing them.  I think that they're going to work well on the bike.

However, in the time since, I've become more and more fond of the 18" front and rear look.  And I'm a bit obsessed with the wheels on this bike:


I'm pretty sure I they don't fit in my budget, but does anyone have any ideas about where I could find wheels like the ones in this pic in 18" sizes?

I know that there are some forged flat track wheels out there (previously mentioned in this thread), but as I understand it, they're generally 19", and don't have provisions to mount a rotor on the front.

Have you ever considered Kimtabs?  These are period correct.  It would require you to run a disk rear but if your getting Morris wheels then you will be running a disk rear anyway.  Limtabs powdercoated gloss black would give you a similar look but 70s not modern.  You could get a set for under $2k

Are you sure? I thought that they were RSD's own 1-off wheels for this project.  I know that PM makes dirt track wheels, but I can't find any info about them on their website.

Im running a 19f 18r both with the same size tire other than diameter. Cant go wrong with the look of dual 16s laced to your hubs but i doubt they handle well.

You might want to consider a nice alloy rim with HD stainless spokes and a super lace from Woody's Wheel Works. See link below and give them a call. I highly recommend these guys for any type of wheel work.

Thanks very much, but I've decided that I don't want laced.  It'll be the cast Morris wheels or some forged wheels if I can find a set that fit my budget.

I got in touch with them, looks like you're right.

Here's what they had to say:

We do offer an 18.0” wheel but they are 3.5” wide.  We do not offer the narrower 18.0” wheels.

I can do a bolt pattern on the front.  On the rear they are set up with knock off nuts.

And he included the following picture:

I'm waiting to hear back on price.

Maybe I could find a 110mm front and 130mm rear on 18x3.5" wheels?


Does anyone know the details of how those knock-off nuts work on the rear wheel?

 On the knock off, usually 8 bolts, cept  4 stick up proud the others are flush. Slip the sprocket or disc over the threaded snout, and drop on the 4 pins/bolts, then spin on the nut.

 You can get sprockets that bolt on same patern, and drill disc carriers to fit.

I think you're right about the price.  That's just barely inside my budget, I think I'd feel better if they were $5k so I wouldn't have to question if I should buy them or not. :)

I'm switching to a link-type monoshock rear suspension to keep the swingarm, rear wheel, and tail nice and open.

What would be good street tires to run in 19" sizes?

I like wire wheels a lot, but it's not the direction I want to go with this bike.  Good luck with your build, that 21/21 combo sounds crazy. :)

I asked about a 19x3.0 front and 19x3.5 rear and the response was:

Polished: $750 & $850.
Black Anodized: $850 & $950.

Not sure which price is which (I assume that the higher price is for the rear with the knock-offs), but this is actually inside my stated wheel budget.

I have a look for the whole bike that's planned around those Morris wheels, and I still really like that plan a lot.

The PM wheels are just so f'n sexay, though.

Yes, they are pretty awesome.  They are my Plan B if the Morris wheels don't come through for whatever reason.

If you can get the PMs in Ducati drill pattern, its the same as cb750..

No, they're not mag.  I don't trust 40 year old magnesium wheels, and can't afford the new reproduction ones from Marvic.

Front is 19x2.15 and rear 18x2.50.  Very close to stock if I recall correctly.

This bike made me stop worrying and learn to love skinny rear tires:
