HELP Please, Swingarm Swap Question on '77 cb750k
« on: May 18, 2011, 03:26:16 PM »
Ok, I am definitely a newbie and I've been up and down this forum looking for a thread but with no luck and I am wondering if anyone can help out.

I have a '77 cb750k that I want to use an '01 R6 rear wheel from my R6 parts bike.  I could have sworn I read someone using an R6 wheel on a GSX Swingarm but I can not find that thread anymore.  It is my understanding that a '86 GSX will bolt right up to the CB Frame and all you have to do get the correct bushings to fit the CB pivot bolt, but I dont know if this will fit my R6 wheel.  I would rather use the R6 swingarm too but the pivot mount is too wide for the CB frame.

If anyone can point me in the direction of the thread or tell me what swingarm I can use the R6 wheel on it will be much appreciated, thanks in advance

 Just measure the GSXR arm and see if it is wide enough for the R6 wheel. You may have to play around with shock mounts or widths when you change arms.
 The pic in the Avatar, do you know who it is.. looks like a bike from here, that would be in 08 if it was him..

Thanks, but  I dont have the swingarm right now and I'm just trying to do the research so i only have to buy one.  I know now a 91-94 F2 and a 86-89 gsx swingarm will fit the bike, the question is if it will fit the rim I want.  I may just have to take my chances.

As for my avatar, the rider is a builder by the name of Shinya Kimura of chabott engineering (i think) on the salt flats posted by sideburn mag; i think it was taken in '09.  really wish it was me, but i just really love this picture.   ;D

I forgot to also mentioned for anyone out there taking notes, the 91-94 F2 and a 86-89 gsx750 both used a 17x4.5 rear wheel while my 01 r6 rear wheel is a 17x5.5.  in 1990, the gsx went to a 17x5.5 rear wheel but i dont know if a 1990 gsx swingarm will fit the cb750.

unfortunately this does not deter me as I went 1" wider on the back of my duc to stuff a 190/50 tire in the back.  Luckily, I was doing a chain conversion too, because I had to push the wheel further back to prevent from rubbing on the swingarm.

Leaning towards the f2 swingarm now just to keep it honda.   :P

I know this is an old thread but i just wanted to clear up a common misconception about first gen GSXR wheels.
85-87 GSXR wheels are 18" inch diameter not 17" (both 1100 & 750).
750 went to 17x5" in 1988 (i don't think it was a 4.5 but the f2 wheel is 4.5)
then 17x5.5 in 1990 or 1991 (little fuzzy on that one too).
1100 had a three spoke 18" in 1988 then 17x5" in 1989.

Slab side GSXR's (first gen) can be identified by their six spokes as apposed to three spokes in the later models. It is a common mod to upgrade to the latter model 17's so if someone has 17's and says they are from an 86 that is what happened.

Slabbies look like this;
