Exhaust for a '73 CB500
« on: April 19, 2006, 03:54:40 PM »
I recently bought a '73 CB500 from a guy on the island for $150 buck. Besides numerous small problems the exuast has a big gash in it from being dropped. It has a 4 into 1 right now. My question is can I put 4 into 2 or 4 into 4 pipes on it or do I have to stay with 4 into 1 for that year. I really don't care much for the one pipe look. Where is a good place besides ebay to find a new exhaust?

Thanks

Patrick

A 73 CB500 in the US of A came from the factory with a 4 into 4.

The FAQ lists lots of parts sources for the SOHC4.  You could even put original pipes back on it for $800 or so.

However, if the carbs have been retuned for the 4 into 1, any exhaust change might need some carb tweaking.

Great news. Thanks.

The carbs need to come off and be rebuilt anyway, it won't idle and it wasn't very well cared for.

Hey Pender,

I really lucked out and found a used complete exhaust system including brackets on Ebay.  They were very dirty but sound, once cleaned up they look great.

I ended paying less than $100 US.  I know this was a rare catch but you never know.
