Cleaning a 78 SS Fuel Cap/Vent Question
« on: May 23, 2011, 12:53:20 PM »
As the title says I'm trying to figure out if there is anyway to clean the cap/vent on my SS.  I noticed on serveral rides now, fuel sitting out side the cap under the tank door.  Also on another ride I opend the tank to check my fuel level, and got a big rush of pressure out of the tank.  So obiviously the vent insn't working correctly, is there any way to clean/check operation of the vent?

Thanks
Travis

if your saying what i think you are you have two seperate issues.. only one of which i can throw my 2 cents at.... the fuel sitting on the top under the fuel door should drain down into a hose and empty out by the rear tire... it is not supposed to recycle the  spilled fuel into the tank.. it is simply an over flow drain... there should be a hole and if you pull your tank you should find place to put a drain hose.... if there is one not already there... the more i think about it my k8 doesnt have a vented cap i dont recall the vaccum sound you described ever happening to me
