Maybe trding my1977 550F for a 1978 750K
« on: May 22, 2011, 02:20:36 PM »
THe K has 11K on it.  actually in real good shape.  Has scratched points cover and the lower pipe on the 4 into 4 on the right side is scratched pretty badly.  Tank is 85%.  Excellet paint and chrome elsewhere.  The guy bought the bike as I was looking at it.  He paid $900 which was a steal.  He wants totrade for my 550 which is in top shape and ridden everyday35K. Horrible king and queen seat and no latch lock.  No key for the gas tank flap.  The 550 has had everything like cables and carbs repaired or replaced.  What are the trade values.  He wants to cafe a bike and the 750 is the wrong bike the 550K makes more sense I think.  I also have a 650C that is in good shape needs paint.  I would trade it without a second thought.

I would trade up from a 35k mi fugly seat 77cb550 to a 11k mi 78cb750. Does the 750 run? What % is your 550 tank & (original?) pipes? I've seen cafe'd 750's, I've read the 550 is a popular project-cafe bike due to lower initial cost of a "restorable".

tank is 100% the pipes original and 60% til you reach the dunstall.  Runs great and has had everything repaired or replaced except the engine innards.  clutch all cables switches carbs rebuilt brakes reworked disc drilled chain sprocket stainless bolts on and on and on paid 450 and have another grand at least in parts and some pro labor ive spent a ton of time on it myself.  Fun bike

Is he willing to trade even up? Use the Nada link for value guideline  http://www.nadaguides.com/Motorcycles   Seems like no brainer to me but I haven't seen the bikes...Larry

Hey Wardenerd, How's everything been since Rockingham several months ago. I really enjoyed talking to you and everyone else there. To bad the forecast didn't let us to ride on the parkway the next day. Well since than Ive added one more scoot a 1970 CB750KO to go with my 750K6. Ive had it a couple weeks now and I still can't believe the deal went through and its mine. My son found it for me by just talking to his boss about old motorcycles he was in the right place at right time and ask the right questions. Im proud of that boy ;) ;)

I understand you wanting a 750. The extra power and size is nice. I haven't seen your 550f, lets see a picture, but hearing you talk about it you've spent quite a bit of time and money on it to get it like you want it- and I quote you from another thread- rode the 550 to work and I love that little bike. So you might want think hard about letting it go. Maybe try to find a buyer for the CB650 or go a different route so you can hold on to the 550. Good luck with what ever you decide.
