I'm getting just about tired of the neat little blister on the top of my big toe fro wearing tennis shoes. SO I would like to know what to look for in some riding boots. Steel toe, stiffness, tread.....what is good?

Welcome back Sand - where ya been?

I always wear my Frank Thomas motorcycle boots as they're comfy enough to wear all day (even at the office!)
When it's wet I use Aquaboots (which we used to call "Derri Boots" in the 70's) which are 100% waterproof (coz they're plastic!)

Sometimes, if I'm fiddling with the bike, I'll ride off in trainers (naughty)

Check out "Back with Questions" in the tech area. Could really use your expertise. But besides being out on my bike, I recently took on another job just to see what would actually happen. BAD IDEA. I believe at one point I was going 48 hours straight on 3 hours of sleep. Had to quit that one, nice paycheck though.  ;D

I've got a pair of Chippewa riding boots I wear most of the time.  Not cheap, but they're very comfortable and warm, and they have an extra patch of leather over the toe so you don't wear a hole in them from shifting.  I didn't get them with the steel toe because I've had problems with those in the past.  The edge of the steel plate kept rubbing a sore spot on the top of my foot.  My favorite boots ever were a pair of combat boots.  I got them really cheap at a military surplus store and they lasted about eight years.  And I wore them ALL the time.

I use Doc Martins...

One thing to be careful of is NOT to wear is steel capped toe work boots.  If your in an accident, and your foot is bent forward (think in terms of your foot landing in front of your foot pegs while still moving forward), the steel cap could act as a guillotine and remove your toes.

26.2 - what's in a name? (birthday?)

Welcome to the board. That looks like a really nice bike - post a proper sized picture in the "Which Bike" poll.

Hello all,

Thanks for the welcome... I'm a long time lurker of this site.  A lot of useful information posted here.  My bike is a 1978 CB750 and I've owned it for 3 years.

Regarding my user name "26.2", it represents running a marathon (26.2 miles in length).  Besides keeping the bike running, I run as well.

regards
- Tom (aka 26.2)

In keeping with the new name trend, guess I need to change mine to Zero. We have a 13 year old bassett hound and there is definately no more running.  ;)

I love my Bates Enforcer series boots.  Military/swat team boots that are very comfortable, cool looking, and durable.  $60 a pair.  Nice hard leather toes...Ha thank god for that, I would have cut my toes off with the lawn mower this past weekend had I not been wearing my old pair.  Cut the top clean off but slowed the blade down enough that I only got a sore toe!  Duct tape is great..theyre still rockin!

gee, I just wear hiking shoes. I would not really call them boots, more like a hi top. They flex and give so I would never have to worry about wearing out the top.

I wear Engineer-style (Carolina brand) slip on work boots, high like a cowboy boot, but with a buckle on the side.  They are made for factory work and have solid soles and thick leather.  They were very stiff at first..   I tested them out a few years ago by kicking my rear wheel out while going 50 mph.  The boots saved my ankles, and I've been wearing them since (about 9 years).  Had them resoled once.  Red Wing makes a good boot too.

I avoid steel tip boots.  I used to ride with a pair of steel toes but they cut into my foot when I shifted and made my toes really cold on cold days.  I genereally avoid laces, could become undone and caught in the chain.  Tall boots are nice to tuck pants into on cold days, plus keeps grease and oil off bottom of pants. Mine are not insulated, but a pair of wool socks and the occasional coating with mink oil keeps my feet pretty warm and dry.

I'm shoping for a pair as well.  I think I'm just gonna find something that protects the ancles + has leather soles.  I hear it's better to slip on the pavement with leather soles than try to stand up at speed with rubber soles.

I wear a pair of German tanker's boots with straps and buckles, no laces, insulated, very cool looking and they remind me of my last career.

I wear a pair of Prexport leather boots, with three Velcro straps. They can be worn under the trousers, no laces to tangle in the chain, they protect the ankle very well. Rubber soles, but the leather is very slippery. I have slipped in oil stains with my shoes. Luckily it was my other bike, that is very nimble, but had it been the CB750 I would have dropped it for sure.

Believe me, and ask 26.2 if you don't trust me. In the same way you need specialized shoes for running, you need specialized shoes for riding a bike. Buy a pair of bike boots. I have cycling shoes (with the automatic pedal catch), runing shoes, hiking shoes, and riding boots.

Nah, for having sex there is nothing like keeping your socks on... it's the best contraceptive method, women lost all their excitement (provided they were excited) with the mere look of a man like us with the socks on.

High heels are very good for sex, but only when is she the one who wears them... LOL

Pair of Combat Touring boots from Rider Wearhouse (the aerostich folks) and a pair of stock issue
combat boots from a LONG time ago and a different life.  I am careful to not restore the spit shine
on the toes, though.
