Idle vs Slow
« on: May 23, 2006, 02:19:31 PM »
I asked this before and perhaps it was too stupid to warrant an answer but here goes. Is there a difference between the "idje jet" and the "slow jet"? I think I've cleaned all the obvious jets out but I must be missing something.

Where does the idle/fuel screw come into play?  Is that something I need to clean up?

Sorry for the questions but the manual is taking forever to get delivered :)

I'm trying to get my #2 and #3 to fire on my 350. They'll fire and get pretty hot when I rev the engine for a while at 5000, though not as hot as 1 and 4. But they stay cold at "idle", if I can even get it to idle. The bike ran great when I picked it up but I ran out of gas on the way home and it hasn't run well since. I'm hoping I just sucked some crap into the carbs and gunked it all up.

Idle and slow are one in the same. The screw in question meters either air or fuel depending upon which side of the carbs it's on. If it is between the carbs and the airbox/filters, it's metering air, if between the carbs and the intake valves, it is metering fuel. As for cleaning, I removed the screws on mine (becareful, not familiar with your bike in particular, but mine had small springs underneath to hold their position when set and can be easily lost) and included the passages beneath in the cleaning process following by blowing some compressed air through the passage.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

I think you answered your own question, welcome to the world of carb cleaning, it's not that bad, take your time, be observant.
