New person, hello all here
« on: April 20, 2006, 02:51:28 PM »
Hey guys, just wanted to say hello, and I hope newbies are welcome here...?  ::) I'm a long time rider, bought my first bike in 1973 ...it was an X6 Hustler. Have had quite a few bikes since the Hustler, from CB750 to Z-1. Got turned off new bikes in '83-84 when they started hanging plastic with gaudy stickers on them. I refuse to ride a bike that looks like a ski boot. Got into the vintage thing in the mid 80's, Bonnies, Triton's and Vins were all residents of my garage. Married with children happened next, the bikes went to pay for a house, etc. About a month ago an old riding buddy called to tell me he was selling one of his CB750's...and offered it up to me. It's a blue 1975 750F. It's a runner, pretty original, and now it's all mine. Funny thing, I gave him some F parts 10 years ago so he could get this particular 750 back on the road, and now it, with the donated parts installed, are in my garage!  Had to find all my gear, it all fit except my riding jacket. Don't know what happened there...... ;) Spent 2 weeks fussing and cooing over it like a mother hen. I lubed the cables, changed the fork oil, greased the swing arm, and changed the plugs. Lots of washing and polishing took place as well. At night, I read my old repair manuals at in bed before going to sleep. Well, last night, I fired it up for the first time, and it started 2nd kick! After a few minutes to warm the oil, I took her out for a ride. Pure heaven.....I had forgotten how great these bikes really are. Sure, it won't handle as well as my old '94 Ducati 900SS, nor will it outrun almost anything it meets on the stree today. But it makes that same whispering frofrofrofrofro sound that made my heart almost stop when I first heard it in 1971. I can see the engine too, and it has chrome and honest to goodness polished aluminum covers. It even smells the same as the ones I saw in the showrooms in 1975...... Anyway, I'm ranting now, and I'm sorry about this long winded post......Cheers to all here.....Peter

Greetings and Salutations Pete!!! Welcome to the worlds best place to find out anything and everything you ever thought you would need to know, and some things you didn't about vintage Jap iron. You will very soon see what an astounding wealth of information is within these posts by some brilliant men and women who have found things out the hard way and eagerly inform the rest to make things a bit easier for someone else. You'll also see enough rants and raves as well as anecdotes and survey questions to boggle the mind.

Welcome back to our world!

Peace,
Jeff

Welcome,

As mentioned, great site, wealth of info. I love riding the old iron, and love the looks you get as well.

Sure has been a lot of new bodies joining here since I have joined. It is great to see more SOHC being resurrected.

So let this be a warning to all!

If you leave your motorcycle jacket hanging in the close too long it will shrink.

It has been proven over and over that winds over 40 mph keep them stretched out.

I've been trying to stretch mine back out for three days in a row now.  ;D

Doesn't seem to be working so far, so I guess I'll just have to keep trying.  ;)

Welcome.
Don't bother trying to strech the jacket. Just cut the back and add inches. Be sure to use
reflective material so we will all know you're not really "new" to riding, just getiing back into it.
