I have not test fit one yet, but wonder if the latter VFR calipers would also work, the ones that are not  cast with "Honda" but are cast with a simple "cross" across the pistons.

I'll go ahead and answer this one for you right now - no. The 1986 and up VFR used a larger diameter rotor with different spacing. I have seen guys make a "cheater" plate that connects the VFR caliper to the cb fork leg but it usually is unsightly.

I think, but cannot confirm that the 1983-1985 VF750F used the same dual pistons as the 81-82 CBF but the brackets are def different.

I was talking about these calipers
The castings look like they use the same mounting point, but i have no idea if they bolt in or not

those are 1985 calipers - brake disc is the same diameter as a CBF. buy them and try them.

Or you can take a cbf caliper bracket to Mitch and see if he has one you can try out on the spot.

I'm actually getting parts together for this brake setup, and the one hiccup I've run across is that while the calipers seem to have been used with minimal changes if any on a lot of bikes, there seems to be only a few bikes that used that particular left hand bracket; the '81-'82 DOHC CB750F and 900F, and the '82 Goldwing.   

Someone please correct me if that's incorrect.

Yes the bracket that is needed is much "harder" to find then the actual calipers.
Most of the time it is just easier to get the calipers and brackets at the same time.
But the bargain hunter type will want to piece it together and save a few bucks, at the cost of leg work

 I ordered new slingshot lines and a set of front calipers. Hopefully get to try them out in a week or two. Not really any way to definitively say they are and improvement, esp. since I am changing multiple things at one time. Two pistons has got to be better than one though right?

The "feel" is better.
Also the twin piston calipers allow you to run better pad compounds then are available for the singles.
They also look cool....

All and all its a great upgrade.
I would like to see more upgrades like this.
Simple, easy, effective and a real improvement in function.

Well, my calipers came in and the pistons are shot. So much for assembly this weekend. Where did you guys source new pistons?

There are some aftermarket replacement pistons, ill look for a link.
If not honda has them and is often cheaper then the aftermarket ones.

I bit the bullet and installed the crusty calipers. I justified the rust thinking? the pistons arent likely to go any further into the caliper until I change the pads. Anyway, long story short, I can now answer my own question that I posed earlier in the thread. There is a DEFINATE improvement over the single piston calipers. I dont know what pads I have but judging from the wear on my rotors I am guessing they have a high metal content.

If you have the later model forks then I would reccomend this upgrade.

Just a follow up on my previous statement. Don't be cheap. fix rusty pistons and replace the crush washers. My brakes went away on me going into a corner and I ended up in the ditch. When I get it all back together, you can be sure I will have inspected and or replaced all questionable pieces.

'82 and up GL500I (Silverwing Interstate) (the post that follows does not list the R and L bracket for the short bracket needed) and GL650 and GL650I used these same twin piston calipers and the short caliper mounting bracket needed for the F front forks. There are two variants of the caliper mounting brackets for the front forks. The shorter one is needed for the CB750F bikes and it is the same as used on the GL650 (both naked and Interstate models GL650 and GL650I as both GL650s used dual front calipers) models for '83...GL650 was a one year bike...its lack of popularity (the Silverwing's and the dressed midweight touring bike and dressed bike like it had waned with much of the US buying public.)
The '82-83 GL500I had twin piston dual front calipers and rotors, the GL500 only had the left dual piston caliper.  I can measure the GL500's Caliper bracket mounting spacing to see if it is also compatible...it could have been the spacing was not standardized before the GL650 and GL650I had came out.

The HH pads are worth the upgrade in better braking performance and feel with these dual piston calipers. Naturally best used with a good set of stainless steel braided brake lines so your brakes are firm and not squishy.

Attached is a list of bikes that the brake parts can be sourced from.

I ran the part numbers and cross referenced all the bikes. Personally I'm using brackets and calipers from a 85 VT1100C.

The brackets were on less bikes than the calipers.
You CAN do great things...with enough beer.

No you can't put the twin piston caliper on the single piston brake arm
