Ebay Vietnamese seats/covers.....who's tried one?
« on: May 25, 2011, 06:40:49 pm »
Has anyone tried the Vietnam seat covers and/or seats with pan that are being sold on ebay?

I've heard mixed reviews on another forum. I think they sent a seat pan for a slightly different model, but the poster was able to make it work. Said the quality was good, but not concours stuff.
Another poster said he has relatives over there and gets the same seats for pennies on the dollar for what they go for on ebay.

 Anyone here tried one?

I'm curious too.  Their shipping is really high and I'd hate to have to send it back if it didn't work.

I'm very tempting for an RD250 build i'm doing...and a couple other bikes too...but the shipping and possible fitment problems involving return shipping has scared me off.

Exactly...I have a local shop that's capable, but was wondering if these are a decent deal.

I got one for my current build.

Check out my sig below for the link.

I'm really very happy with the quality. I had basically nothing so for $250 incl shipping you get a nicely refinished metal seatpan with good upholstery in the process.

I got one.  Mixed feelings on it.  I have a CL350 twin.  I bought one of the bump seats for 'either cl350 or cb350'.  I specified the CL in my message when buying it.  They emailed me, I confirmed.  They called me.  I confirmed.  I get it in the mail and it's too farking short- it's the one that fits the CB with the larger CB tank. I was able to procure a CB tank that fit but I was still kind of peeved.  Also, the seat pan needed modification to fit (thanks to paulages for getting that to fit right!!!) so also not so great, but the seat looks and feels decent.

Well... that's on a lift in Paul's shop, but yes, I do have enough bikes. Probably more than I ought to have, anyway. :D

Ok so I went to pick up the seat come go find out the seat was way to big for the cushion it came with. However more on the long end than the width. But the upholstery shop is pulling the seam apart and pulling it tight then sewing it down.  I notified the seller and he was kind enough to pay the difference of the repair to make fit. Overall I would say the seat is very nice and will post pics once I pick it up monday.

Pick up the seat. Fit is perfect with a little trimming and restitching. The cushion is very firm and fit is perfect in regards to tank clearance. I must say I am very happy with the fit and finish and the pad.

Now I have to paint the tank and side covers then the wheels. Clip ons will go on the afternoon.

Little bike is coming along pretty good.

Here is a better look at the seat. This bike will have a complete write up coming up. Hsu figured I would get more done on it and do one large post since I have other projects already on going on this forum.

I like that you left the rear fender on. I much prefer that to the fenderless look, although a bobbed fender and smaller tail light is a very good look too.

I just got mine in the mail.  I have not done one of these before.  Any tips I can get for mounting this foam/cover kit would be kewl!

It was $148 shipped.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.
