I've just been working in the garage for the first time in months(it seems) and am feeling rather giddy,Sam. Dreaming of what this rusty pile will eventually be. Then Mike has to go and post those beeeyooootiful shocks and the rubber band just snapped :D
I suck....sorry Sean. ;)

How far is New Hampshire, I had a mate that raced there in the 70s. Brian Zeky.

He was from Copake Lake in NYS.

He also raced one of my bikes in the 76 I.O.M TT.

He finished 15th.

Sam.
For Christsakes....did you tune Hailwoods comeback Ducati.  ;) ;D  What was that 1980?

That was Sports Motorcycles of Manchester, about 12 miles from my work place.

They are custom made in the Netherlands- that's why it takes so long . You can choose shock and stroke lengths, springs etc. They set up the shocks for your weight too. They are expensive coming in around 800.00

What about the bikes weight Mike ?
What other info did you have to give them before they built them. ?

good gawd. those are beautiful shocks. they look similar to the racing bilsteins i have for my race car. and here i just pulled the trigger on some of those boges on ebay.

the question remains, however... can you build a front end for a CB that will keep up with those shocks?

First...nice pic there Sam. They ask for riders weight(nothing about bikes weight), what eye to eye length you want, progressive or linear spring, longer stroke length/shorter stroke length. Extra cost items include ti nitrite on the shaft, ride height adjustment and some others. If I remeber correctly you can also get it in a piggy back design with adjustable compression. Mine have 30 clicks of rebound adjustment. I fit them on the bike Sunday...I'll take some pics tomorrow. They went on nicely though I had to cut a very small "window" in the chainguard for clearence. You can't see it when the shock is mounted.

I want to fit Race Tech cartridge emulators with some of their springs. I run them on my FJ and have installed them on at least a dozen bikes. They work great. Just have to figure out which size (if any) will fit. Race Tech actually listed one for the CB500/550 for a year or 2 but they don't any more.

Do they not ask for the swing arm geometry or the weight of the bike loaded/unloaded at both ends ?

Sam.
I would think unloaded bike weights would be in a data folder. If you had change the weight of the bike radically I would make a point of it. I think eye to eye length and stroke length(which can effect overall lengtgh) would address changes to original shock mounting points on a twin shock swingarm. Single shock systems using non OEM links would change rates a bit and would have to be addressed. The important thing I've seen is how much initial preload is used on an assembled shock. I usually see about 10 to 16 mm recommended. The shocks include easy instructions on setting rear sag which in the end is the important thing. I've found the front spring rates to be much more sensitive to combined weight. My Busa currently uses 1.1 Kg springs as opposed to the original 8.0 or 8.5 springs. The Busa a heavy bike and I'm over 210lbs. I had to dial in so much preload with the stock springs that the spring damping rate goes out the window....it doesn't work as intended. A buddy installed different compression valves/shim stacks, different rebound stacks and removed the anti bottoming units. A different fork now.
