Front brake switch wiring
« on: April 20, 2006, 07:28:12 PM »
Hello! New to this group. Picked up a 72' CB750 on the cheap seems to run well, but the previous owner did some funky wiring. Looks like the main harness was 'home made'. After sorting out the turn signals & was wondering why the front brake switch was not activating the rear brake light & duh!!!, cause there are no wires off the switch. Can anybody tell me how to wire it? Can I tie into the foot brake switch wires does the power have to be separate?

A popular modification to these bikes was to add 2 discs up front, then remove the switch wires so you could grab a handful of brakes without a brakelight so the cop doesn't see you slowing quickly after the stoplight race, until you hit the rear brake...Looks like you got one of those....  ;)

The headlight, if it has any original wires, contained a pair that ties directly across the rear brakes light switch. They run the same circuit, so just extend the rear brake wires, if your originals are missing, and tie into the pressure switch on the front. Polarity makes no difference.

....and don't be surprised if the switch is bad.  I've gone through three
of them.

My bike is set up the same way - now I know why (and what to do about it) :)

Nice scoot ya have their.

Thanks, I have a thing for the 'Super bikes of the seventies', I also own a Norton Interstate & Trident. The CB750 is pretty clean, runs nice, sounds nice (more beefy then I remember them, maybe the muffler packing is shot). I'm digging some of the cafe style bikes I've seem on this site & a few others. Since it's got the 'krylon' flat black paint job (LOL!!!) so popular with the cafe bikes, I'm thinking of venturing into that realm. hope ya don't mind, but I'll be picking your brains for info a lot, Rich.
