Topic: no key,400f

   I just bought a 75 CB400F that is missing the keys.
I know I can get a new ignition but don't know what to do with the gas cap and seat lock.

I would especially like to get in the gas tank to see how bad it is in there.On the same note I would like to open the seat and remove the tank.

Ant help is appreciated.

Sounds a little sketchy, are you sure it wasn't stolen?

If the VIN and all that checks out with the local police and all, I guess your next port of call would be looking at the # on the lock cylinder or the back of the helmet lock and ordering some keys made.

As far as the fuel tank goes. if it is a Honda "lock", it doesn't have any tumbler parts.  Any key, screwdriver, etc. will open it.

For the seat, you should be able to pull the hinge pins to get some room to work, then unbolt the latch hardware from either the seat base or the frame and gain access for tank removal.

Nothing sketchy,the bike was in the same family all its life but the 2nd generation didn't appreciate it as much as the 1st and abandoned it in the back of a barn and missplaced the key.

Welcome,  looks like a nice find-400 fours are a lot of fun.  You'll probably have your work cut out if gas was left in the carbs. An awful lot of info is to be found on this site.   Does the motor turn over?...Larry

Awesome,the tank cap opened right up with the wing key.
It was apparently parked with a full tank,bad gas but the tank looks plenty savable.

Yes,the motor as well as the clutch,all cables carbs and brakes are free.but i am still anticipating alot of work.Nothing is rotted,but everything is a little corroded.

I still need to finish my 500 and figure out the tranny issues,but this was a deal I needed to jump on now.

I got some brand new keys from an ebay seller.
$5 each.

Get the number off the ignition, probably T#### or H#### and do a search with that number on ebay.

  Thanks for the help guys,I typed the numbers from the seat lock into EBAY and got the key yesterday for $5.00,works perfectly.
   Now I need correct bars.

+ 1 on the "correct" bars...kinda makes me cringe, those big 'ol hangars on a sporty little 400/4. Don't let her get seen around town wearing that!
