Sluggish tach trouble
« on: April 27, 2006, 07:42:16 PM »
Any suggestions to fix a tach that won't move well? It moves slowly, Stabilizing after 30 seconds! short revs or closing the throttle don't even register! Attemped spraying a solvent in the cable connection but to no avail. Is it possible or advisable to dissassemble the tach? ???

It could be the gauge, the cable or the gear in the engine.  Do you have any spare parts to swap out for a process of elimination?  Does the cable turn freely?  Kinked or bound up?  Is the needle rubbing on the face anywhere?  My bet is either the cable or the gauge, and I think the cable is easier to determine.

cable seems to spin freely when the guage is off the bike.  When shut off the cable won't rotate but can be slid in and out. therefore I'm sure it's a guage issue.
