Turned a K1 airbox to a K0(CB750)
« on: May 31, 2011, 08:06:30 PM »
Don't know if anyone has tried this, but it seems to have worked. Before I knew the difference, I bought a K1 airbox for my newly acquired K0, on eBay, for not much money. ($20 bucks I think) Then I stared at it for a year cursing myself. But I'm not sure if I was being cheap, or just wanting to not have to order one from far away, so I wondered If I could grind off the ridges. I seems like it worked, granted, it's not really correct, but I'm not really going for a concours resto, so, I'm fine with it. It turned out pretty good I think. Ground off the ridges, used some Bondo type stuff for plastic car fenders to smooth it out, and painted. What do you think? Here's the before, middle and after shots.

Looks like it should pass a 10 foot inspection.

Looks like it should pass a 10 foot inspection.

That means it's ready for eBay as a real K0 box!   ;D ;)

Sweet work, I had planned to install a metal "cover" to smooth the sides and paint it to match the tank.  Kind of a retro 70's chopper thing for a not so exact KO wannabe. I like yours better.

Thanks guys, It was a fair amount of work, but yeah, I think it will pass the 10 foot inspection, maybe not the 10" one. I was a bit worried about the paint sticking, because I believe maybe it's a different kind of plastic. I don't think this will crack very easy like to orginal k0's. But the paint is sticking fine. And yes, it's Don's paint.
