1981 CB650C oil leak help
« on: May 31, 2011, 05:41:02 PM »
After a long, hot ride I noticed that not only were my boot and jeans soaked in oil, oil was pouring out from the bottom of the points cover. When the bike cooled off, I took the cover off but couldn't really tell where it was coming from. Anyone have any ideas?

no points on a 650.... but anyway, you shouldn't have any oil behind that cover. the only place I can think of it coming from would be the crankshaft seal. this is lipped so dont know if you could replace it insitu, or have to seperate the cases.

Oops! I meant the ignition cover. Today I cleaned the oil out from the inside. I've attached a picture of what it looked like before I cleaned it. I then let the bike run at about 2000 rpms for about 20 minutes without the cover on. No new oil came out while I was watching. Does this mean that the leak was a fluke and I can start trusting it again?
