I keep seeing "show me a pic" so i guess here
« on: May 30, 2011, 10:23:39 PM »
This bike my father perchased after I got my second bike, which was a CB550, he rode it a few times and then parked it in a barn with a sand floor. After he past away it sat for around 10 years in this barn. When I got it it was pretty grody lookin as the moisture from the sand wasn't very kind to it. I replaced the rear wheel set up, it had an extra wide tire on it at one time with these really short thick spokes. I rebuilt the innards to the forks and messed with the carbs some but at the time didn't know wtf i was doing and never really ran the bike on the road. things hapend and it sat for about another 10 years now. This spring i moved it from out of side out of mind rite in the center of my barn and then it spoke to me. It said "You know you want me. You know you want to feel the wind in your hair. Do it! Do it now!" So here i am posting these pics and asking a lot of questions. My main plan for it rite now is to just get it road worthy and then go from there.

I nearly got caught the same way, it looks like you can only add one picture at a time but just under the ATTACH bar you will see a tiny (more attachments) link, click on this and it will drop down the next BROWSE line, click it again and so on and so on...upgrades they always catch me out. ;)
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Orange tank in the background looks pretty clean, must be a 73 or 74.Do you have the original side panels and seat? Looks like a very nice platform to start with-now get to 'polishin'---Eric

Those are very nice lookin bikes Dave!  8) Why didn't you go with the shock covers? I like the chrome look of the caps. This thing is a bit off from that.
I think I'm ready to fire it up as long as I have not forgot anything. It hasn't been started in so long. Before I do Ive read so far to drop a bit of gas in where the spark plugs are. Anything I should do to the carbs before i fire it up? I can not really ride it just yet as the front break seems froze up  :(  and have not had the time to take it apart. Like to take most the front end apart and clean, shine and polish what i can in conjunkion with taken care of the breaks.

I really wish i would of taken one of the rear wheel before i polished it. I had over 27 hours into it. I personally thought it was a wash. Found a site that said to use aluminum foil to polish chrome. Said that it not only polishes it that it also seals up any pits with some fashion of electrolysis or something like that idk. But I was really surprised how it came out. Now the wife has bought me several rolls of foil from Marks.
You see the front end rite now in one of those pics. I plan on working on that this weekend. Will take another of it after its finished. I also have some 4 to 4 pipes i picked up at a garage sale for 50$ a few years ago but not sure if of their condition inside as I really do not know what to look for. I know 1 of the pipes has what looks like a rust rip coming form inside. But I will definitely take a before and after of those.
