Visibility options
« on: May 29, 2011, 04:45:59 AM »
I just bought a new, mesh Summer riding jacket. It wasn't until I got it home that I noticed it's very lacking in reflective strips/patches, etc. Basically one little tag on the back.

Other than the bright neon air craft carrier/road crew type vests, what are some options for adding something reflective for a little better night time visibility?

We tried the Halo helmet band before, but over time it stretches and came loose from my girlfriends helmet. Worth trying again, though. But what about any pics, strips, etc., for a jacket?

I've been considering something like this:

It is the neon orange color, but it's not the cheap looking throw-over/tie-on type that road crews wear.  You can also get some reflective tape at the hardware store and put a few strips on your helmet.  It's easy to cut into thin strips or cut into specific shapes to fit the design/contours of your helmet.

I found some neon orange duct tape I put a few strips on my back pack. I'm sure there are reflective strips that can be stuck just about anywhere.

Reflective tape is good for helmets but maybe some reflective cloth. Take the jacket into a sewing place and have them stitch it on. A strip on the back and on the arms. Don't know if the chest is worth worrying about. If someone does not see your headlight, they won't see your chest.

If you wear riding pants, maybe a strip on the outside of each leg.

I've seen that Neon Orange duct tape being used on baggage at airports with a big X.  Really shows up well.
