Finally figured out how to st the idle on my bathtub

Bathtub

I don't know why it does this, but as I turn off the cold water it starts to oscillate like that.  I put in new seals and valves a couple of months ago.  It doesn't seem to hurt anything, but does anyone know what exactly is going on?

The bib screw has backed out and the faucet washer is loose. The screw can get caught between the washer and the seat and ruin the faucet. Or sometimes it sticks in there and the water won't turn off. Usually when you are not at home and the person there doesn't know hot to turn the water supply valve off.

 PS.
Don't have too much fun with it, the resulting water hammer can break pipes, hangers and cause other things in the house to leak.

Yeah, I asked my dad while I was moving out of my house about it.  He basically just said it was the pipes hammering, and that it was probably due to the water pressure from the city being high or something.  He said the fix was to have a vertical section of pipe somewhere in the house that was a foot long or so that had an air pocket in it.  this air pocket would act like a spring and absorb the shock rather than the pipes hammering.

I don't have to worry about it too much, though.  I'm halfway round the world and the wife is moving out!   ;)
