O rings - service bull #42
« on: June 02, 2011, 02:14:26 pm »
For sealing the head on my K2 the Options are this
Viton round oring
Honda Quad ring.

I can obtain either one..and Im tending to want to pickup whats readily available.
Will one seal better than the other? I tend to think there will be little difference.

Do I punt and go with the Viton Os?
I know this: Im not going to rely solely on the head gasket to seal anylonger on these
teardowns..no matter how flat the surface seems to be. The V Orings are 75 durometer hardness.

I've only used the Honda rings.  No leaks on 3 rebuilds.  I personally wouldn't use anything else.  It's just not that much more money.  If you try an alternative, let us know how it works out.  Good luck.

Not knowing what Honda uses for material, I would go with Viton since in all similar applications it has worked very well for me in the past.....whereas on many occasions Honda chosen material underperformed, and proved inadequate.
