Ignition timing problem
« on: June 05, 2011, 09:16:35 AM »
I've set the dwell at 46ยบ on both sets of points using the 4 cyl scale on a dwell meter. Using a strobe timing light, I can get the 1-4 timing perfect but I can't  get 2-3 advanced far enough. The plate those point are on is rotated as far counterclockwise as it will go. The best I can do is get the T and index marks to line up. Can anybody point me in the right direction to fix this problem?

Thanks, Jim

Common problem with aftermarket points......... may have to reduce dwell to achieve more advance adjustment. See Hondamans post about 'working with Daichi points '.

One more thing!......... is the points plate a snug fit ?, it may be a little off-center vs. the point cam .

Appears to be snug fit. Seems like it would have to be way off center to be this far out of adjustment.

Those are the cheap points.  I had the same problem with them, the geometry of the base is way off and thus the timing usually can't be set properly without modification.

So. Got an online source for OEM quality. Local Honda dealer wants $28 per set. Is
that about right?
