If it is in as good of shape as it looks, then it should get over $2k on eBay pretty easily.

I have to ask, why would you pull off the rear guard then put a tyre on thats going to pick up every bit of crap on the road and throw it onto your back...? Or more to the point, why remove the rear guard at all..?, it will sell better {and probably for more} with the guard on....?

I have the rear fender if someone wants to put it back on. It was just too rusty for my liking.

I was thinking about a high reserve ($2500?) on eBay. That way I can just tell the wife it didn't sell.

check ebay right now, there are 2 400f's on there for $4750 and $5000

yours would look like a steal if it went up next to them for $2500 right now

Now you're getting the idea... But seriously now, find a rear fender and you should get your $2500. Is there not somethijng else you could sell to finance your inground? Maybe a second mortgage or something? I'm telling you - you're going to regret selling her...

I had a feeling those were the words of "the better half".

Now I'm not going to get into relationship advice here, because I don't know you or your wife or anything about how you two work together, but in my house the idea that I would have to sell one of my bikes because we "need" a different toy would be laughed at so hard I would probably end up in the hospital with several broken ribs. Of course the only money we share is for joint expenses. The rest is kept separately so there are no arguments over who gets to spend money on what.

eBay is expensive even if it doesn't sell. Go Craigslist which is free, or even CycleTrader, which does cost but probably not as much as ebay.

I have had both homes with motorcycles and motorcycles when I had no home. I had a home with an in ground pool for several years too (in Miami, FL) and now having had experience with both I have to tell you, keep the bike and forget the pool. A pool is a bigger waste of money than a boat, the only difference is that after the first couple of weeks of ownership you still use the boat.

Truer words were never spoken. On those rare occasions when you feel like floating around in a pool, talk one of your neighbors who owns one into throwing a pool party. They'll probably jump at the chance to do something that justifies the expense and hassle of owning and maintaining a pool - cleaning, pump filters, chemicals... It stays hot as hell here most of the year, yet half the pools in the area are green with algae growth from no use and no maintenance. Total waste of money.

All such wonderful ideas. I rode the bike to work today and didn't even get out of 4th gear (62mph top speed.) The more I ride, the higher the eBay reserve price gets....

I could understand purchasing a pool in a warm climate if you live in the middle of nowhere but upstate New York where a local muni pool is probably a few blocks away- keep the bike and fauhget about the pool. As a former pool owner you will be saving yourself a lot of money and work unless you have tons o'money to burn and pay some chlorine-smelling dude to come and maintain your pool on a daily basis.

Pools are worse than boats as far as money holes- never so true.

I think the main problem is that the wife will only be using the pool, not maintaining it, so any argument presented to her about the hassles of pool ownership will most likely fall on deaf ears. Same concept as the nice lawn, the TV/stereo/DVD/Entertainment system, the car, the computer, the in-home wireless network, the ac and heating, the plumbing, the clean gutters, the paint, the structural integrity of the house, etc.

It's all just supposed to work and be available to her when she ~~wants~~ NEEDS it.
