further to an of topic tangent heres a thread to what your registration costs you,we have an option here in queensland to pay six monthly or yearly,,the six monthly works out a bit more expensive,my bike 550cc for six months is $136.60 or $240.60 for twelve,this is with a "solo"seat compliance plate attatched,,the bike cannot carry a passenger,its nearly double if you can carry a passenger,my 308 cid car is $496.05 for six or $959.50 for twelve,,this includes a compulsory third party insurance.

I have a clean record (which makes a difference here) so for my 750(I didn't tell them it's an 836, but who would) I pay $27 a month for full coverage insurance. I also have a 1.6L Honda Civic that costs $25 a month for liability only. I think tags are about $25 a year. I forgot to get the antique plates that you only pay for once for my bike.

registration = $48

Still don't have it on the road this year though. Need more $ to fix the old 1976 cb550.

My 1974 CB350-F classifies as a "Historic Vehicle" so I get that class of registration for $18/year instead of $42 that it normally would be for a motorcycle.  Liability insurance is compulsory, and for that I pay $328/year.  This still seems steep to me, as my 1965 Austin Healey only costs $166 per year for full coverage insurance.  (As an auto, its registration is $74...got a personalized plate rather than "Historic".)

I don't have insurance because it's not a runner yet. I bought it without a title so when I got it titled I had to get a regular tag for one year for $33.01 (US). After that I got an antique tag that never expires for $28.50.

Even when I have a bike that is not running
I still register it every year otherwise have to pay registration PLUS
6% sales tax all over again.

That sucks.  Here in Ontario we only pay tax when the ownership changes, i.e. when it is first registered after the transfer.  Legally,  ??? you are required to register a vehicle within so many days of a transfer of ownership, but many "collectors" of old vehicles (especially motorcycles) don't bother to do this as it just means you get dinged with the tax.  If the vehicle doesn't have a safety certificate stating that it is roadworthy, then an ownership registration is issued as "UNFIT" meaning that it is registered but cannot be licensed for the road until a certificate is obtained.  If the vehicle has a "FIT" ownership certificate, then a license to operate it on the road can be purchased at a later date.

Back to the fact that many bikes get exchanged by collectors without registration  ;), it means that often old bikes show up without ownership, making registration and licensing more challenging.  Let's see, how many CB750's in my garage do I have  ::) and this one over here with the license plate and insurance works fine :D, but I really would really like to test this one that I just acquired and fixed up  8) and show it off to the guys at our breakfast meet  :P.

P.S. I don't have a CB750 SOHC in my collection, and I'll have to plead the fifth.
