Dyna 2000 troubles
« on: October 16, 2010, 11:32:11 AM »
As my project is getting close to being finished, I have a problem that I need help with

I am running a Dyna 2000 with Dyna 3 ohm coils

it was pretty east getting everything wired up after a little help.

Went to start the bike and number 2 cylinder didn't fire. After a couple of minuets, it started to catch

and finely fired.

pulled the bike back in to the shop and pulled all the plugs, grounded to the valve cover.

Now the strange thing is that When I started to check out connections, voltage etc etc

everything checked out per the instructions from Dyna

all plugs are firing (Grounded on the valve cover) everything is good

went over on the other side of the shop, did a little work

came back an hour later and 2/3 are not firing.

as far as I know everything is plugged in, voltage is good and the grounds are grounded

I have also hooked up 3 different sets of coils with the same results. 1/4 fire every time and 2/3 are inconsistent

any opinions and thoughts greatly appreciated

thanks
Jim

Is there a specified gap for the triggers? I would look at that..
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

did you static time it?  You may need to adjust the plate and or rotor.  2 and 3 are adjusted from the rotor under the allen heads.

I re-checked the timing and its dead on (Using the LED on the box)

I contacted Dyna with this and am waiting for the reply.

Thanks

I'm having issues like Big Jim had last fall.  A single cylinder is dropping out... but not the same one every time.

Using an infrared thermometer, exhaust pipes for 3 out of 4 cylinders will all be about 500f, and the random offender will be running 130f or so.

The problem has varied between coils, which check out OK.  Starting to think the Dyna2000 controller is going.

Jim: How did this story end for you?

I would try testing All the components to spec and see if they measure up w/ a good
meter and factory specs for the Dyna triggers, etc. If they All check out ( & double
check out) you may nail it down to a defective Dyna Black box.
75' CB400F/'bunch o' parts' & 81' CB125S modded to a 'CB200S'
I love the small ones too !
Do your BEST...nobody can take that away from you.
