Advancer stop
« on: June 06, 2011, 08:54:25 AM »
So in an effort to get my advancer in my 750's perfect I started bending the weight stoppers and noticed that with even slight bends that stress cracks are forming at the bend. I thought maybe grinding may be better. Anyone tried this?

What's perfect?
Adjust the timing at full advance so the advance lines are right at the pointer. Low RPM advance is not critical and the engine will idle and run perfectly with the F mark timing not "perfect". Full advance is less tolerant, retarded will reduce power and too much advance can damage the engine.

Seems very un-Honda like to include the "F" mark if it is unnecessary. It must affect starting and idling.

You kinda have a choice. Static time it to the F mark and then check it with a strobe and the advance timing will be a little off.

Time it to the strobe and advance marks and the F timing will be a little off.

#2 is my choice. Very unlikely to get both spot on, IIRC.

Has to do with cosmic factors like production tolerances of the points, heel and contacts, point wear, dwell, phases of the moon, etc., advance spring fatigue, 3rd year of a Presidential cycle.

Personally i would not go to work on the advancer.
