For all you "Readers" out there....Buy my wifes book :)
« on: June 06, 2011, 04:34:53 AM »
So a number of years ago my wife expressed great interest in actually writing a book that had been floating around in her head and sometimes on paper, but it's hard to do the creative thing when working full time in the mundy world.  So, somehow she convinced me to let here quit her job and write full time.  All I can say is THANK GOD i ended up liking the book!  It would've been terrible if it would have been sub-par :o

The publishing industry being what it is at the moment (in turmoil), getting published as a 1st time author is a (#)@!$ unless your writing about T&A, Sparkling Vampires, or Tom Clancy spy novels.  So we formed our own publishing company (Das Krakenhaus Publishing) and tackled the job ourselves (ie. Typesetting, editing, etc...), and now the end product is finally here.

If you like Supernatural Fantasy, Historical Fantasy, Urban Fantasy then this is probably right up your alley.  I promise..... NO SPARKLING VAMPIRES in High school  ;D !!

Ebook is on it's way and should be around in the next few weeks (i hope).

Sorry for the shameless self plug, but gotta promote by word of mouth mostly since we're doing this all on our own.  If anyone is interested in a preview.  I'd be happy to send along a PDF of the first chapter, just send me a PM.

Cheers, Joe

Well, that's interesting.
I will see if the library will buy it.

If you don't mind telling me I'd be interested how that works out.  We just released the book last week, so it might take a number of weeks until it's cataloged throughout the distribution channels.

We're doing On-Demand Printing through Lightning Source (part of Ingram) and their main distribution partners are as follows.  I think Baker and Taylor is a large supplier for libraries.

Ingram www.ingrambook.com
Amazon.com www.amazon.com
Baker & Taylor www.btol.com
Barnes & Noble www.barnesandnoble.com
NACSCORP www.nacscorp.com
Espresso Book Machine www.ondemandbooks.com

Congratulations to your wife.  ;) Looking forward to the eBook version.

When you say you tackled the publishing yourself, what did you use?

Amazingly enough, even after at least 7 readings throughout the whole process i'm still not 100% tired of reading it.  So YES  ;D  I liked it.  I actually think I'm gonna have to read it one more time just so I can revel in holding a physical copy!

Hi Bob,

All of the typesetting was done in Adobe InDesign.... and I can positively tell you that there's a reason that people get PAID to operate that software.  It was quite a lot of trial and error as we were learning the ropes.

Throughout the whole process the book was also peer reviewed and Edited by a friend who's freelanced professionally in the past.

The next book will be much easier after having done things the hard way for this one.

Cheers, joe
