71 CB750 First bike first build
« on: June 06, 2011, 09:28:10 AM »
Been a member for awhile, don't post often. Bought this bike from a friends neighbor for $300. She wanted $600 and ended up talking herself down to $300. Can't argue with that. It was her late husbands main transportation, been sitting in her front yard in the elements for 1 1/2 yrs.
I took pics as I remembered to, sorry for the randomness of it. It's pretty gnarly looking, but runs and rides amazing right now. Almost done, I'll get new updated video and pics up after its more complete.

This isn't a complete tear down. As, I didn't want to open that can of worms on my first bike. I am looking for a 150 for that project.

The video is when i first got it to turn over, and realized the starter was sticking. The kill switch doesn't work, AND if i just touched the start button it would die.

it rides really nice. i rode it to work for the first time yesterday, and its the first time i've got it out of 3rd gear. I had some idling issues but i got those worked out. I'm sure a cushy seat will make it feel less stiff though haha.

i spoke too soon. its acting funny when idling. if sitting in neutral it eventually putts out and dyes like its out of gas. when in first it starts to die soon if not given gas. sooo, must fix this.

what did you do with those missing frame rails?

have you check that when the forks are bottomed out that the wheel doesnt hit things....
also did you know that the fender acts as a brace and is important to have for the front end?

I understand that you are building a bike for a look and not to actually handle but no need to be unsafe

+ 1 on the forks....wow!! I would think the wheel would hit if you ran over a crack in the road. The bike does look tight though.

I understand that you are building a bike for a look and not to actually handle but no need to be unsafe

Frame rails were thrown away and had ends welded on with L brackets for my lights. A cross bar was made to bolt the fender in place and replace the rigidness for the back of the frame.

I have front fender now, I built one from one of my CL 175 projects I am doing. Ill post pics soon.

Also, no it doesn't bottom out at all or catch my exhaust when I turn. It was carefully measured out before I dropped it and set it in.

I made it from the inner rear fender. I actually made it as a template to make one out of metal, then I liked the plastic mainly so I dont have to worry about dings and paint chips off of flying objects.

And thanks a lot guys. I'll post some more photos soon as the seat is done and the lights and license plate is installed. Score one for antique motorcycle registration. $50 for 5 yrs.
