Topic: Yoshimura pipe?

Hello everybody, been enjoying the weather?  I have.  I've managed to pick up this n.o.s. pipe recently and I was told it was a Yoshimura pipe.  I've never been able to find a picture of a Yoshi pipe for a cb.  Is this the real McCoy?  There's no markings on it, but I couldn't beat the price and I'm happy with the looks.  What do ya think?

It looks to me like a MAC chrome cannister 4:1..  I'm not positive if that one is indeed a MAC, but that's what the MAC cannister muffler/pipes look like

Now that I see the side view (I had only looked at the angle view before) I think it might not be a MAC after all.  The MAC cannister is the same exasct shape, but the can itself is a little bit longer.

Well, I believe the MAC headers all attach using the stock finned rings. I've never seen one that didn't, anyway, although that may not be saying much.

The Yosh headers bolt directly to the head like those in your pics.

The can doesn't look like any Yosh muffler that I've seen, although again, that may not be saying much. I am under the impression that Yosh made a few different models.

Question: Do you have any temp. problems by running without the finned exhaust clamps?

I hope it's not a Mac, simply because if it's a Yoshi, it's era correct.  I trust the person that sold it to me; he's a reputable cbx man here in town, but I just plain felt like a second opinion.  Don't we all get a little paranoid when we buy something?  Anyway, it never had "fire" in it. It's just been hanging around for a long time.  Honestly, I didn't like the look of the can until I installed it.  It matches the boxiness of the cb better than that kerker did (although the kerker sounds better!).  It tucks up to the frame nicer, too.  Noel, do I have heat problems?  I don't know yet, nor was I aware that I might.  I've only logged 20 miles on the pipe, but I'll do some temp measurements this weekend.  Have you or anybody had heat problems with pipes with no clamps?  To everybody else, I appreciate the kind words!

Re. heat problems: No, I've never heard of any; just something I dreamed up on my own. Am bidding for a set of Yosh pipes on Ebay (well, I guess I've stopped; $235 and still haven't met reserve ) and got to wondering about the lack of clamps. Figure the smart men at Honda put fins up there for a reason...

Don't know what the can is, but I'd bet my life that those are MAC header pipes.  Looks like someone used aftermarket/homebuilt head clamps.

I don't know, the flange is loose on the end, but captured by a bump out on the pipe and the shoulder that seats against the gasket.  It's welded up and chromed afterwards.  Looks like a factory job to me.

They look great I need aset muself as mine are going rusty from a bad decision to use Dgreaser on them (IDIOT)
 I have a set on my CBn750K5 which for all intense and purposes look the same ther HANCO from Australia but the tail pipe is swept up more and gives a hell of a note.

Thats not a Yoshimura unfortunatly, as yoshi pipes are Black, they made a stainless one but thats stamped with the name on it.

I have made my pipes look and sound like yoshi's and I have a Genuine series 1 Yoshi on Darius Yeelow 750 SS I just finished.

   

I have a Yoshi on my 910cc K5 cafe and I have one on the Red devil 836 K4.


I can get them still as I have an old source but they are $1000 a set, but NOS.
#$%* load of money but a great sounding pipe.

They look like Mac headers to me.

Aside from the price and name, is there any functional difference between your pipe and the Yoshi pipe?  If your pipe is made to the exact same specs, (but is more inexpensive) then the Yoshi pipe should really be for people who NEED a "period-correct" bike, right?

I agree with the majority that your pipes are probably MAC and not Yoshi
Damn inflation and I thought they were expensive back then.
