cb500 wiring issue - Removal of tach, speedometer, lights
« on: June 03, 2011, 02:10:17 PM »
Hi All,

I recently removed the tachometer, speedometer, and idiot lights from my '72 cb500.  The problem is now that she will not start up.  I'm getting current to my headlight and the electric start will turn over, however it will not start up.
*Side note: the bike started up beautifully before my wiring adventure :)

I only removed the wires associated with the tach, speed, and lights from the headlight housing.  In doing this, am I not closing up a loop somewhere by my recent removal?  In having the light come on and the electric start 'work', am I missing something silly?

Thanks!

Is the killswitch located in the headlight housing?

All wires are connected except for three
1.)Brown/White: Lights from Tach and Speedo fed into a 3 way split

2.)Light Green/Red: Light from Neutral Idiot Light

3.)Blue/Red: Light from Oil Idiot Light

Literally, all I did was disconnect all wires associated with the speedo, tach, and idiot lights.  Do I need to complete a circuit that i disrupted by removing all three?

+1 My money is on your diagnosis bryanj, it's really easy to knock something else loose in the bucket when you're mucking about.
